Six Hoyas Set to Participate in 2020 Tokyo Summer Games

WASHINGTON – Six Georgetown University current and former student-athletes will play a part in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics and Paralympics as the event kicked off with the Opening Ceremonies. The Hoyas boast four athletes competing, including two for Team USA, along with two will be in the broadcast booth this year. Georgetown is one of only six schools in the BIG EAST Conference to have athletes competing in the Games.

Daisy Cleverly
New Zealand
Women's Soccer
  • Started all 14 games for the Hoyas in the 2020 season.
  • Managed one goal and one assist for the 2020 BIG EAST regular season.
  • Represented New Zealand in the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cups.
  • Played underage for the U20 and U17 New Zealand women's national teams.
Amos Bartelsmeyer
Germany
Track & Field – Men's 1,500m
  • Bartelsmeyer is a seven-time All-American in track & field and cross country.
  • He was mamed a First Team All-American when he was part of the fourth-place distance medley relay at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships.
  • Is a seven-time BIG EAST individual title holder (3 indoor, 4 outdoor), including a trio of titles in the outdoor 4x800-meter relay.
  • His seven total BIG EAST individual crowns is tied for seventh-best in program history.
  • Has been a part of three BIG EAST Cross Country Championships.
Charlie Buckingham
United States
Sailing - Laser
  • During his career on the Hilltop, Buckingham was a two-time recipient of the Everett B. Morris Trophy, recognizing the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) College Sailor of the Year.
  • He is one of five Hoyas in program history to earn the honor and the lone Hoya to be recognized twice (2009, 2011)
  • Four-time ICSA All-American
  • Was the 2011 Georgetown Male Athlete of the Year.
  • Won the 2010 ICSA Single-Handed National Championship
  • Represented Team USA at the 2016 Rio Olympics and won a Bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games.
Rachel Schneider
United States
Track & Field – Women's 5,000m
  • Schneider was a seven-time All-American in track & field and cross country at Georgetown.
  • She was part of the third-place distance medley relay squad at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships and fourth place DMR foursome at the 2012 championships.
  • A BIG EAST Champion in the outdoor 4x800-meter relay in 2010.
  • Part of the 2012 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship team.
Michelle Konkoly
Broadcaster
Paralympic Swimming
  • A former member of the Georgetown swimming & diving team, graduating from the College in 2014.
  • Was a member of Team USA at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, winning four medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze).
  • Set the S9 world records in the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter freestyle.
  • Will broadcast the swimming events at the Tokyo Paralympics for NBC.
Monica McNutt

Women's Basketball
  • Was an All-BIG EAST honoree on the Hilltop sitting among the program leaders in 3-pointers.
  • Served as a team captain.
  • McNutt was a part of two NCAA Tournament teams advancing to the Sweet 16 as a senior.
  • Now is a basketball broadcaster and analyst featured on FS1 and ESPN.
  • She will broadcast women's basketball at the Tokyo Olympics for NBC.
