Women’s Soccer Season Opener Ends in a Draw

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team tied 2-2 with NC State Thursday evening at Shaw Field as the match was forced into overtime.

The Hoyas put in a good effort to tie the game up after an early goal by the Wolfpack in the 5th minute. Georgetown capitalized on a great opportunity in the second half to one up their opponent when graduate student Sydney Cummings scored making it 2-1 for the Blue & Gray. NC State scored an equalizer midway through the second half and the score remained 2-2 throughout overtime.

Head Coach Dave Nolan

  • "Today's game was a real challenge for us, NC State is a very well coached team and was well prepared for us. I didn't feel we ever really got going and struggled in possession of the ball. We made two mistakes for the goals we conceded but it's the least they deserved. We scored a good goal to tie it up and when we went ahead I felt we needed a 3rd goal to kill the game off but were not sharp enough to get one. Unfortunately they punished us on a set piece and by the end of it I can't argue with the result. We will definitely need to be sharper on Sunday."

  • The Hoyas came out strong with a goal five minutes into the second half.
  • Tallying ten shots, Georgetown pushed hard offensively to keep the ball in the opponent's half.
