WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team wrapped up its preseason camp over the weekend and is now working to prepare for its season opener on Saturday when the Hoyas play host to Marist at Cooper Field. Throughout the preseason camp, GUHoyas.com has been taking an in-depth look at each of the team's position groups, with this edition featuring the tight ends.
The position group is one of Georgetown's deepest in recent years, with six tight ends suiting up this preseason. The Hoyas are led by a strong core of upperclassmen with the return of fifth-year senior
Zach Jewell, as well as seniors
Sergio Portobanco and
Liam McHale and junior
Chris Autino. The group is bolstered by the addition of a pair of newcomers in sophomore
Graham Hill and freshman
Harrison Greenslade who will look to make an immediate impact.
"This a great group consisting of very smart, talented and extremely coachable players," said Assistant Coach
Kevin Falaki. "We've put in a lot of work on technique and they have all taken huge strides through camp, getting one percent better every day. They hold each other and myself accountable and are quick to get up for each other when we make a play. Every one of them does something extremely well and will add a lot of value to our offense this fall."
Veteran Returners
- Zach Jewell has appeared in 21 games over the past two seasons after switching from the defensive line following his freshman season. He caught two passes for nine yards in 2019.
- Sergio Portobanco will look to breakout this season after battling injuries in each of his first two years on the Hilltop.
- Senior Liam McHale and junior Chris Autino will also look to increase their roles as they have combined to appear in 14 career games, mostly on special teams.
New Faces
- Graham Hill had a decorated high school career, earning all-district and all-state honors as a senior.
- Harrison Greenslade was a two-time all-league honoree in high school, finishing his career with 47 catches for 1,014 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The Hoyas open the 2021 season on September 4 when the Blue & Gray welcomes Marist to Cooper Field. Georgetown will play five home games this fall, including three Patriot League matchups and a nonconference tilt against Harvard (September 18).
