Box Score WASHINGTON – The No. 25 Georgetown women's soccer team (4-0-5) drew with Creighton (6-2-2) Thursday evening after a 110-minute match up left both sides even at the end of regulation. This was the first BIG EAST game for the Hoyas as they are playing back to back road games with the next on Sunday in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"Obviously we are very disappointed not to open up our conference account with a win. Unfortunately, we gave up an early goal which we should have defended better, but credit to Creighton they fought very hard, defended with passion, and we didn't have enough quality to break them down often enough. On another day, one or two more of our chances go in, but this is the essence of our sport. I cannot be upset by our effort, the girls really left it all on the field tonight but this definitely stings. We now head to play a Xavier team flying high at their home pitch on Sunday hoping for three points."
How it Happened
- Creighton dominated the first 20 minutes of the first half as it went up 1-0 in the third minute from a shot by Abigail Santana that bent into the top right netting too far for goalkeeper Allie Augur to save.
- The Hoyas bounced back and gained possession late in the second half to come up with good scoring chances.
- The Blue & Gray had its closest look at goal from a corner that led to a shot towards the lower left post by freshman Cyanne Doyle which went under the Bluejays' goalkeeper Keelan Terrell and had to be kicked off the goal line by a Creighton defender.
- Creighton came out hard and fast in the second half but Georgetown dominated.
- Georgetown was successful in the press as senior Maya Fernandez-Powell's shot was deflected and found its way to the back of the Bluejays' net setting the score to 1-1.
- The Hoyas had nine shots in the second half with consistent crosses coming in from the left and right flanks by senior Jenna Royson and Doyle.
- Both sides battled through the first overtime period with even play and played through the final whistle in the second half leaving the game at 1-1
