Hoyas Add Another BIG EAST Victory

WASHINGTON – The No. 15 Georgetown women's soccer team clinched a 2-0 victory over DePaul Thursday afternoon to get their second win in BIG EAST regular season play. The Hoyas are now 2-0-1 in the BIG EAST and 6-0-5 overall as the Blue Demons fall to 0-2 in the BIG EAST and 3-7 overall.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"This is a very valuable win against a tough DePaul team. We started brightly, scoring a great goal in the 1st minute. Credit to DePaul, they responded very well and started to put some good pressure on us, in particular with counter attack moments. I challenged the team at half time to get hold of the game, especially in midfield and I thought they responded very well. However, it took a second goal for us to finally shake them off. We were a little unlucky not to have another goal, but overall I was happy with the result and in particular the second half performance. DePaul is well coached and will take a lot of points in the conference this year."

About the Win

  • Georgetown came out firing in the first half with a goal by freshman Cyanne Doyle 30 seconds into play.
  • Junior Gia Vicari added to her assist total (2) to play the goal scoring pass into Doyle.
  • The Hoyas had three more shots on goal in the first half and out possessed DePaul to close out the half.
  • The Hoyas came out running again and almost added a second goal by Doyle but the crossbar deflected the ball out of the goal.
  • The Demon Deacons had an opportunity to tie the score with a shot in the second half but junior goalkeeper Allie Augur scooped it up easily.
  • The aggression between the two sides picked up as the game played out with Georgetown earning seven and DePaul earning 11.
  • With 15 minutes on the clock, graduate student Kelly Ann Livingstone earned a corner. Senior Maya Fernandez-Powell took the corner playing a ball to the back post where Livingstone redirected it to the penalty spot and senior Jenna Royson blasted it into the top of the goal.
  • Graduate student Kaitlyn Parcell had a pair of identical shots to close out the game and help the Hoyas get the 2-0 victory over DePaul.

What Lies Ahead
