Georgetown Faces No. 21 Providence Thursday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team (6-8, 0-3 BIG EAST) will head to Dunkin' Donuts Arena to face Providence (14-2, 4-1 BIG EAST) on Thursday, January 20. Tipoff in Rhode Island is scheduled for 5 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Kaiden Rice led all Hoyas in double figures with 19 points on five 3-pointers to go along with five rebounds. His five triples marked the sixth time this season with five or more in a game and the first time since Syracuse (12/11).
  • Aminu Mohammed turned in 13 points and 12 rebounds for his BIG EAST-leading sixth double-double of the season. Dante Harris added 13 points and a team-high four assists through 32 minutes of work. As a team, the Hoyas outrebounded (39-32) the Johnnies and held the edge in second-chance points (22-12).
  • Aminu Mohammed leads the BE with six double-doubles (5th - NCAA freshman) and 8.6 rpg (6th - NCAA freshmen).
  • Rice averages 3.9 treys/game to rank to lead the BE (5th - NCAA).
  • As a team, GU paces the BE shooting 36.7 percent from distance while pulling down a second-best 40.6 rpg (21st - NCAA).
  • The Blue & Gray has four players ranked among the BIG EAST top 20 in scoring as Mohammed leads the way with 13.8 ppg (14th), followed by Rice (13.5 ppg, 15th), Harris (13.0 ppg, 19th) and Donald Carey (12.8 ppg, 20th).
  • Harris ranks third in the BE with 4.9 apg and 1.8 spg.
  • Collin Holloway is shooting 82.9 percent from the line (5th - BE), joining Carey in the conference's top five (93.9%; 1st - BE, 3rd - NCAA).
 
ABOUT THE FRIARS
  • No. 21/21 Providence has not played since defeating St. John's, 83-73, on Jan. 8. The Friars have won nine of their last 10.
  • Nate Wilson leads PC with 14.1 ppg.
  • Noah Horchler sits second behind GU's Mohammed with five double-doubles and 8.4 rpg.
  • As a team, the Friars hold their opponents to a paltry 39.8 shooting percentage (BE - 2nd) while keeping control of the ball by committing a mere 11.8 turnovers per game. 
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Sunday will be the 78th all-time meeting between GU and Providence with the Hoyas holding a 47-30 edge overall.
  • In last season's lone meeting, Georgetown overcame a 15-point first-half deficit to win, 73-72 (01/30/21). Chudier Bile led the Hoyas with a season-high 19 points off the bench, including going 10-of-12 from the free throw line, while grabbing a game-best nine rebounds. Jamorko Pickett and Carey also added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Head Coach Patrick Ewing is 3-4 against Providence as GU's head coach and went 9-1 against the Friars as a player.
