Hoyas Emerge Victorious Against American on Friday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving teams put forth a dominant effort against American at McCarthy Pool on Friday afternoon. The men's team downed the Eagles 210-87 while the women secured a 174.5-122.5 victory.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Alex Breuer took first place in both 100-yard (1:05.44) and 200-yard breast (2:19.06) events.
  • Erin Hood (2:09.30) picked up the win in the 100-yard back while joining Breuer and Samantha Kim (2:26.99) on the podium with a second-place mark (2:20.76) in the 200-yard breast.
  • Emilie Ginovker, Lizzy Durgin and Wynter Bramao swept the 3m dive with respective scores of 249.08, 247.28 and 247.13. Ginovker and Durgin also went 1-3 in the 1m dives with scores of 249.75 and 236.48.
  • Sophia Ribeiro (1:54.77), Ryan Evangelista (1:57.50) and Corey Moon (1:58.54) went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard free. The trio also swept the podium in the 500-yard free with Ribeiro in first (5:05.34), Moon in second (5:08.83) and Evangelista in third (5:14.03).
  • Reali and Haley took the top two spots in the 200-yard back as did Hood (2:09.30) and Samantha Hagberg (2:10.00) in the 200-yard fly.
  • Allie Sanchez (58.44) and Maddie Haley (58.92) earned first- and third-place finishes in the 100-yard back while Ashley Vensel (10:39.65) and Carly Rutledge (11:04.95) did the same in the 1,000-yard free.
  • Genevieve Youngman (58.67) and Angelica Reali (59.40) went 2-3 in the 100-yard fly while Ines Lovato (53.85) and Tia Thomas (54.36) followed suit in the 100-yard free as did a pair of 400-yard medley relay teams. Lovato added a second-place mark (24.43) in the 50-yard free.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Georgetown won 13-of-14 events while sweeping eight podiums.
  • Hoya divers held all six podium spots as Charlie Reichle, Hriday Parekh and Kyle Maziarz secured top-three scores in the 3m dives with 299.03, 288.08 and 284.55, respectively. Maziarz, Tristan Gess and Reichle went 1-2-3 in the 1m dives with marks of 294.45, 281.55 and 279.15.
  • The 400-yard medley team of John McEachern, Bailey De Luise, Michael Baldini and Josiah Lauver took the top spot (3:25.91), followed by teammates Liam Ryan, Nicholas Pezzella, Nate Lamers and Sean Percin in second (3:31.73).
  • McEachern (52.41), Ryan (54.07) and Lauver (54.15) posted top-three marks in the 100-yard back while Conor Jellig (1:54.32), McEachern (1:55.99) and Ryan (1:56.00) swept the 200-yard back.
  • Pezzella won the 100-yard (57.89) and 200-yard (2:08.23) breast events. De Luise (57.96) and Ansen Meyer (59.22) preceded the Hoya freshman in the 100 while Jack Brearton (2:10.54) and Stephen Kim (2:10.65) followed in the 200.
  • In the 500-yard free, Jack Januario (4:40.43), Andrew Babyak (4:47.05) and Will Barao (4:52.27) controlled the podium. 
  • Januario and Jellig went 1-2 in the 1,000-yard free, posting times of 9:39.94 and 9:48.43.
  • Connor Brennan and Michael Baldini went 1-3 in the 50-yard free, finishing 0.1 seconds apart at 21.54 and 21.64. 
  • Baldini (50.60) and Nate Lamers (52.10) also finished first and third, respectively, in the 100-yard fly while Matt Gibson (1:57.56) and Jordan Gross (1:59.57) did the same in the 200-yard fly.
  • Lauver (47.26), Percin (47.82) and Will Connolly (48.25) took the top three spots in the 100-yard free.
  • Barao (1:44.04) and Brearton (1:44.06) finished .02 seconds apart to take second and third in the 200-yard free.

The Hoyas welcome NJIT (men's) and UConn (women's) to McCarthy Pool on Saturday, October 22 for a noon meet.
