Georgetown Hosts American on Wednesday

 
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball returns to the District to welcome crosstown rival American University to Capital One Arena for a matchup on Wednesday, November 23 at 11:30 a.m. The Hoyas (3-2) return from a 1-1 showing at the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic last week while American (2-2) is riding a two-game win streak with wins over William & Mary and at NJIT.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown enters Wednesday's game with a 3-2 record following a 69-62 win over La Salle in the consolation game of the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic on Sunday in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
  • For his efforts over the two-game tournament, Qudus Wahab was named to the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic All-Tournament Team. Over two games, he averaged 17.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg and shot 62.5% from the floor.
  • Wahab scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting to lead a pair of Hoyas in double figures as he was joined by Brandon Murray with 16 points. Akok Akok's 10 rebounds were a game best and helped the Blue & Gray outrebound the Explorers 42-40.
  • Primo Spears leads a quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 16.6 ppg, followed by Murray (15.4 ppg), Wahab (14.0 ppg) and Jay Heath (12.3 ppg).
  • Akok grabs 8.6 rpg to lead the squad while Wahab chips in 6.8 rpg.
  • Spears' 16.6 ppg ranks sixth in the BIG EAST while Akok's 8.6 rpg comes in at fourth in the league while his 2.6 bpg ties for second.
 
ABOUT THE EAGLES
  • American is 2-2 on the season and riding a two-game win streak into Wednesday's matchup following up on wins against William & Mary and at NJIT.
  • At NJIT, Elijah Stephens (14) and Matt Rogers (12) combined for 26 points in the 58-53 win. The Eagles outrebounded the Highlanders 34-33 and forced 13 NJIT turnovers.
  • Colin Smalls leads AU in scoring with 11.7 ppg, followed by Rogers (10.5 ppg) while Rogers and Johnny O'Neil each grab 5.5 rpg. Stephens paces the offense with 4.5 apg and chips in 2.5 spg. O'Neil's 3.0 bpg leads the squad.
  • Head Coach Mike Brennan is in his 10th season with American University. Brennan spent four seasons (2009-13) as an assistant coach at Georgetown before returning to AU to take over as the head coach of the program in 2013.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Wednesday's matchup will be the 56th meeting between the two programs with the Hoyas leading 47-8. The Hoyas own a 30-4 advantage at home and Head Coach Patrick Ewing is 2-0 all-time against the Eagles as a coach. As a player, Ewing was 3-1 against AU.
  • The Blue & Gray has won the last 11 meetings, most recently posting a 79-57 last season (11/16/2021) at Capital One Arena.
