WASHINGTON – Julia Leas was one of 15 Division I women's soccer players named as a 2022 Women's MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist on Wednesday afternoon as announced by United Soccer Coaches. The Mac Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award a player can receive at the collegiate level. The women's finalists will be announced on December 7 and will be based on voting by NCAA Division I women's soccer coaches. Leas was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List in August before the start of the 2022 season. Since her original nomination, Leas has tallied a handful of awards and honors in support of the outstanding 2022 season she had.
Leas was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team and named as the Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. The Virginian was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and earned the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the BIG EAST Championship. The defender was awarded BIG EAST Defender of the Year and to All-BIG EAST First Team as well as All-East Region First Team honors. Leas was named the BIG EAST's Defensive Player of the Week three times and to the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll twice. She scored three goals and tallied four assists over her 22 starts. Leas was also named to College Sports Communicator's 2022 Academic All-District Team.
