Georgetown Hosts Xavier Friday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team returns home on Friday to take on the Xavier Musketeers to start BIG EAST Conference play. The Hoyas (5-6) are coming off an 83-64 loss at longtime rival Syracuse while the Musketeers (8-3) are coming off a 79-59 win over Southern. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Capital One Arena.

  • Friday's matchup can be seen live on FS1 with Scott Graham calling the play-by-play and Tarik Turner providing analysis.
  • The game will be broadcasted locally on The Team 980 and nationally on Sirius XM 381 with Rich Chvotkin on the call for his 49th season.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Friday's game with a 5-6 record after falling to Syracuse on the road last Saturday. Three Hoyas reached double digits in the contest, with Primo Spears recording a game-high 22 points to go along with a squad-best five assists.
  • Jay Heath notched his third-straight game in double figures after recording 14 points and tallying one rebound and one assist.
  • Qudus Wahab rounded out those in double figures, scoring 10 points to go along with 11 rebounds, which was good for his third double-double of the season. The senior tallied back-to-back double-doubles as he had 10 points and 12 boards against Siena (December 7).
  • Spears' 17.2 ppg leads a quartet of Hoyas in double figures, followed by Brandon Murray (15.1 ppg), Heath (14.4 ppg) and Wahab (10.3 ppg).
  • Wahab leads the team on the glass with 7.7 rpg and Akok Akok is right behind with 7.6 rpg.
  • Spears paces the offense with 4.9 apg while Akok tallies a squad-best 2.0 bpg.
 
ABOUT THE MUSKETEERS
  • Xavier is coming off a 79-59 win over Southern where Souley Boum, Zach Freemantle, Jack Nunge and Colby Jones all managed double-figure scoring.
  • Freemantle and Boum were solid from the floor with Freemantle going 7-of-10 on the night and Boum knocking down 5-of-9.
  • Boum stuffed the stat sheet with seven assists, one block and two steals along with his 17 points. Boum averages 17.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, and is shooting 51.2% from behind the arc.
  • Freemantle and Nunge lead the Musketeers on the glass with 7.5 rpg and 7.1 rpg, respectively.
  • Sean Miller returned to Xavier for his second stint as head coach, previously holding the role at Xavier from 2004-09. Miller owns a 422-156 all-time record in his 17 years as a head coach.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Friday's matchup will be the 24th all-time dating back to 1953.
  • In the teams' last matchup, the Hoyas fell to the Musketeers 97-75 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
  • In the game, Aminu Mohammed logged his 10th double-double of the season, posting 15 points and 16 rebounds to go with a pair of blocks.
