Reilly Breaks Georgetown’s Career Ground Balls Record in 20-10 Victory Against Marquette

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's senior faceoff specialist James Reilly set the men's lacrosse program record for career ground balls with 347 following a 17-for-31 (.548) showing at the 'X' with nine ground balls in a 20-10 win over Marquette in BIG EAST action. The Hoyas improve to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in league play to claim sole ownership of first place in the league standings with two conference games remaining.

Hoya Highlights Marquette Notes
  • The Golden Eagles fall to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST play.
  • Bobby O'Grady led Marquette with five goals while Devon Cowan and Pierce Washburn both had two.
  • Despite giving up 19 of MU's 20 goals, Michael Allieri was still impressive in net for Marquette with 26 saves on the day.
How it Happened
  • Trading goals early, the Hoyas posted three-straight goals to lead 4-1 before Marquette battled back to make it 7-3 after the first quarter.
  • In the second, the Blue & Gray scored the first three goals but was countered by three-straight man-up goals from Marquette in less than a three-minute span to make it 10-6. Georgetown then posted back-to-back goals from Watson to close out the half and take a 12-6 lead into the locker room.
  • Coming out of the break, the Hoyas outscored MU 5-2 in the third quarter to lead 17-8 and was up 19-9 with 10 minutes to play in the fourth before pulling their starters en route to the 20-10 win.

  • Reilly is now also just three faceoff wins shy of Corno's program record 624.
  • McElroy's 11 saves give him 507 for his career, just three shy of Scott Schroeder ('02) for sixth place all-time.
  • With his six points, Watson now has 120 for his career and is tied for 19th place all-time with Peter Conley ('17) and Craig Berge ('18).
  • Bundy's three points move him past Lucas Wittenberg ('18) and Bo Stafford ('15) for 26th place all-time.
