PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Georgetown University's second-ranked men's lacrosse team won its fifth-straight game with a 15-5 victory at Providence in BIG EAST action.
Gibson Smith IV set the program record for caused turnovers while
Graham Bundy Jr. joined the elite 100 career point club in the victory.
Hoya Highlights
- The Hoyas wrap up a three-game road swing and improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
- Bundy led Georgetown with six goals and an assist. With his fifth goal of the game, and sixth point, he became just the 28th Hoya to reach 100 career points.
- Connor Morin added three goals and an assist while Dylan Watson had two goals and an assist. Alex Trippi notched two goals while both Alex Mazzone and Declan McDermott had a goal and an assist.
- Jack Leary posted a pair of assists while Will Godine, Zachary Geddes and Colin Munro all had one.
- James Reilly was dominant at the X, winning 17 of 18 (.944) faceoffs to go with nine ground balls. Matt Riley went 4 for 5 (.800) with three ground balls as the Hoyas only lost a pair on the day.
- Defensively, the Hoyas held their sixth opponent of the year to fewer than 10 goals and held the Pioneers to just 30 shots with only 13 on goal.
- Mazzone was credited with two caused turnovers while Godine, Cade Caggiano, Wallace Halpert, Will Tominovich and Smith each added another.
- Smith's caused turnover, the 80th of his career, broke Chris Nourse's ('13) record of 79 set in 2013.
- Godine and Watson both had four ground balls while six other Hoyas had three.
- In goal, Michael Scharfenberger collected eight saves for his third-straight win between the pipes.
Providence Notes
- No Friar scored more than one point on the day with five different players scoring once each.
- Alberto Paniccia had two caused turnovers for Providence.
- In goal, Michael Harris had 18 saves in the loss to go with five ground balls.
How it Happened
- A low scoring first quarter saw Providence up on the board first following back-to-back goals from Trippi and Watson to make it 2-1 after 15 minutes.
- In the second, the Blue & Gray scored twice early to make it 4-1 before the Friars found the back of the net with 1:43 remaining in the half. After winning the ensuing faceoff, Bundy scored off of a rebound with five seconds on the clock to give GU a 5-2 halftime lead.
- Coming out of the break, the Hoyas outscored PC 5-0 in the third quarter and posted seven unanswered goals into the fourth before the Friars scored at 10:15 to make it 12-3.
- Three more goals from the Hoyas, including Bundy's milestone point, emptied Georgetown's bench with just over seven minutes to play en route to the 15-5 victory.
Of Note
- Bundy's seven points on the day give him 101 for his career, putting him 28th all-time in scoring as a junior.
- Watson's three points give him 114 for his career, moving him into sole possession of 22nd on the all-time scoring list.
- Smith's caused turnover gives him 80 for his career, setting the program record since it became an official NCAA stat in 2010.
