WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's rowing team traveled to New York last weekend for racing on Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca as part of the Cayuga Racing Series. The teams put together some solid performances as they gear up for the Eastern Sprints.
On the Record
- "It was a great set of races for us in Ithaca. It was disappointing to lose, but we benefited from the racing experiences. Both crews (varsity and second varsity) changed tactics and race approach over the course of the racing and learned more of what they could do and need to do. I think it will help us in the Eastern Sprints Championship in two weeks." – Tony Johnson
How it Happened
- On Friday, the Hoyas battled Penn with a strong headwind and some chop. The first varsity came in at 6:23.95, while the second varsity fell clocking a 6:45.1
- Saturday saw two races starting out with a light headwind and flat water. The first varsity fell to Oregon State with a 6:01.16, but the second varsity crossed the finish line first in its race with a 6:04.63.
- In the second race of the day, the wind picked up and the Hoyas made some adjustments to the first varsity lineup.
- Despite the change, GU fell to Cornell in both races with a 6:18.9 by the first varsity and a 6:30.6 from the second boat.
Up Next
- Both the heavyweights and lightweights are back in action next weekend as the compete on Sunday, May 15 for the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Massachusetts.
