Hoyas Earn Two Medals at IRA National Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's rowing team won two medals at the 2022 IRA National Championships this past weekend in Princeton, New Jersey on Mercer Lake. The lightweight varsity 4+ took third in the Grand Final on Saturday, before the lightweight varsity 8+ placed third in the Grand Final on Sunday.

How it Happened
  • On Friday, four boats raced in heats and for lanes as the Blue & Gray positioned themselves for success of the next two days.
  • The second varsity lightweight 8+ took fifth in its heat with a 1:56.290 to get lane seven in the Grand Final.
  • The varsity lightweight 8+ won its heat coming in at 1:22.510 to advance to the Grand Final. The team beat out Columbia, Navy and Penn in the race.
  • In Friday time trials, the varsity 4+ put together an impressive third-place finish with a blazing 6:10.979 for a spot in the semifinals. In that race, the team took second clocking 6:23.349 for a spot in the Grand Final the following day.
  • A lightweight 4+ also competed, taking sixth in the time trial with a 6:21.181 and then finishing fifth in the semifinal coming in at 6:33.534. In the Petite Final on Saturday, the squad raced to a second-place finish at 6:42.828.
  • Saturday's excitement came from the varsity 4+ which put together an impressive 6:21.977 to bring home the third-place medal for the Blue & Gray.
  • On Sunday, the second varsity lightweight 8+ took seventh in the Grand Final clocking a 6:21.106.
  • This was followed by another medal for the Hoyas as the varsity lightweight 8+ put together quite a performance to come in third in the Grand Final with a 5:58.942.
