No. 19 Georgetown Opens 2022 Play at No. 14 Penn State

WASHINGTON – The No. 19 Georgetown women's soccer team plays its first match of the 2022 season tomorrow, August 18 against No. 14 Penn State. The road game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff in College Station. The Nittany Lions are coming off a 12-8-1 record during the 2021 season which saw them through to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, losing to South Carolina 2-0 to knock them out of the tournament. The Hoyas went 14-2-6 in the 2021 season and lost only one game (UConn) during regular season play and the second to the 2021 NCAA champions Santa Clara in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

  • Georgetown was selected first in the BIG EAST's Preseason Coaches' Poll last Thursday.
  • Seniors Julia Leas, Allie Augur and Gia Vicari were all selected to the 2022 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
  • Leas was named the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Augur was simultaneously named the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.

The Hoyas' home opener is set for Sunday, August 21 at 1 p.m. on Shaw Field against the University of Massachusetts - Lowell. Tickets are available online or at the ticketing booth on game day.
