WASHINGTON – Georgetown Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach
Freddy Mesmer has announced the hiring of Assistant Coach Diana Kussainova on Thursday.
"I am excited to welcome Diana to the Hilltop," Coach Mesmer said. "Her experience playing college tennis at George Washington and Hong Kong will be an excellent addition to our staff. Her passion for tennis and excitement towards bettering our student-athletes experience is crucial in her role as the assistant coach. I look forward to working together and seeing where this year takes our program."
Kussainova comes to the Hoyas after playing last season for City University in Hong Kong. She graduated from City in May of 2022 with a Master's of Arts in communication and new media.
In 2020, Kussainova graduated from George Washington University where she played for two seasons from 2016 to 2018. In her fall campaign as a freshman with the Colonials, she posted a perfect 8-0 singles mark in tournament play and won solo flight titles at the Elon and University of Virginia invitationals. She also posted a 6-1 win over No.6 University of Massachusetts during her sophomore season in the A-10 Championship semifinal.
Before Kussainova joined the Colonials, she was ranked in USTA G18s at No.19 in Florida and was a five-star tennis recruit. She was George Washington's first nationally ranked women's tennis player in over two decades.
While pursuing her undergraduate degree in communications, Kussainova coached tennis at The Ritz Carlton and at Fort Gatlin Tennis
