WASHINGTON – Sophia Scarangella is another student-athlete from the Georgetown softball team who spent her time this summer pursuing her passion as she interned for Senator Krysten Sinema (Arizona) on The Hill in Washington, D.C.
From May through August, the senior worked in Senator Sinema's office assisting in the daily running of her agenda and attending political meetings. Scarangella learned and witnessed first-hand the influences of the federal government and the history of United States politics. She had the opportunity to interact with people from Arizona, both Senator Sinema and Scarangella's home state, who are also in the District working in government. Scarangella toured visitors around the Capitol and its grounds as well.
Scarangella has just started her senior year at Georgetown and is majoring in government. The summer internship allowed her the opportunity to meet and interact with fellow students from around the U.S. as well as individuals in and pursuing the same career field. After a fulfilling and fun summer experience, Scarangella was offered and accepted an internship with the Senator again for this fall.
"I had the pleasure of working for Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona this summer," said Scarangella. "It was an incredible experience which taught me extensively about the influences of the federal government on everyday constituents. My favorite part was interacting directly with Arizona residents and giving tours in the Capitol. As a Arizona voter as well as a government major here at Georgetown, I had the opportunity to mix my future career path with the love I have for my home."
