WASHINGTON – Georgetown freshman Vernon Clay will be honored at game two of the 2023 MLB World Series after being named the MVP of the MLB RBI World Series in August. Clay was a part of the Houston Astros Youth Academy RBI team.
In the championship game, Clay was sensational for the Astros team, earning MVP of the game after going 3-for-4 at the plate and having three base hits in the contest. His final hit of the game came with the scored tied in the eighth inning and a runner on second. With a knock up the middle Clay brought the runner home securing the victory for his squad on a walk-off.
During Regionals leading up to the final event, Clay was on a tear for the Astros going 8-of-17 at the plate with two doubles, one triple, five RBI's and three stolen bases across three games.
Clay will be honored at game two of the MLB World Series which will take place on Saturday, October 28 at Globe Life Field in Austin, Texas. The Rangers and Diamondbacks are currently set to play game one of the World Series tonight. All youth award recipients will be honored during the pre-game ceremony prior to game two at Globe Life Field.
