Women’s Basketball Hosts Brown on Sunday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Brown University Bears in a nonconference matchup on Sunday at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a big 68-45 victory over Temple University at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Thursday evening.
  • Senior Kelsey Ransom led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds as well as five assists and four steals for an all-around performance. 
  • Graduate student Graceann Bennett added 12 points and six rebounds, while classmate Mya Bembry added 12 points and four boards.
  • The Hoyas shot an impressive 52.8% (28-53) from the field, including shooting 76.9 percent in the first quarter.  GU also had 22 assists in the game. The Blue & Gray allowed 31.5% (17-54) shooting by the Owls.
  • GU outrebounded Temple 38-22, and Georgetown forced 16 Owl turnovers on nine steals.
  • On Monday, Georgetown downed UMES in the season opener at McDonough Arena by a score of 61-50.
  • Ransom earned BIG EAST Conference Preseason honors at the league's annual women's basketball media day held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
  • The Hoyas were picked to finish 10th in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving 20 points.
  • The Hoyas lost just two starters from a season ago and return a talented group battling for minutes including Ransom, graduate students Graceann Bennett and Jada Claude as well as junior Brianna Scott.
  • Georgetown added a pair of transfers for the season including graduate students Mya Bembry from Seton Hall and Alex Cowan from Wagner.
About the Bears
  • Brown is 0-2 on the season, dropping games to Florida Gulf Coast (80-58) and Holy Cross (62-54) to start the year.
  • The Bears were picked to finish sixth in the Ivy League Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, which was voted on by media members from around the league. Brown picked up 42 points in the poll, finishing ahead of Cornell (39) and Dartmouth (16).
  • BU brings back most of its squad from a season ago as the Bears have 13 returning players. With 13 returners, Brown also returns the vast majority of its production from a season ago.
  • Brown's top-eight scorers from last season are back, led by Kyla Jones, who finished the year with 16.4 points per game. All-Ivy Honorable Mention Grace Arnolie averaged 11.7 points per game and Isabella Mauricio scored 11.5.
