WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's squash team split a pair of matches over the weekend in Philadelphia, falling 9-0 to No. 8 Penn on Saturday and sweeping No. 18 Bates 9-0 on Sunday. The 15th-ranked Hoyas improve to 1-2 on the season with both losses coming against top-10 opponents.
After a 9-0 setback to the Quakers on Saturday evening, the Hoyas regrouped for a quick turnaround to defeat the Bobcats 9-0 on Saturday morning. Eight of the nine matches were 3-0 Georgetown victories to give the Blue & Gray their first win of the season.
In the top spot,
Jesse Brownell won 8-11, 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7,
Ella Schoonmaker won 11-9, 11-8, 11-7 in the second spot,
Aaru Kuthari won 12-10, 12-10, 11-8 in the third position,
Lindsay Lee was victorious 11-5, 11-8, 11-1 in the fourth slot and
Mary Kacergis won 11-7, 11-3, 11-5 in the fifth spot. All five Hoyas in the top half of the ladder earned their first wins as Hoyas.
Sweeping the bottom of the ladder,
Katie Hennessy won 11-4, 11-3, 11-6 in the sixth spot,
Sydney Bramen won 11-2, 11-1, 11-4 in the seventh position,
Caroline Wilcox won 11-1, 11-5, 11-4 in the eight slot and
Eena Yu won 11-2, 11-2, 11-4 at No. 9.
Playing an exhibition match,
Aalia Husain claimed an 11-1, 11-3, 11-0 victory as well.
