Nielsen, Schewe and Tabora Honored as Seven Hoyas Earn Postseason Awards

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team earned three BIG EAST Conference player major awards and seven total all-conference honors on Tuesday when the league announced its postseason awards. Additionally, the Georgetown staff received BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the third-consecutive season.

Senior Marlon Tabora earned co-Midfielder of the Year honors marking the fifth-consecutive season a Hoya has won it, while senior captain Kenny Nielsen captured Defensive Player of the Year as GU managed its sixth-consecutive defensive honor. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Schewe was the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year marking the first since 2020. Tabora, Nielsen and Schewe were also named First Team All-BIG EAST along with sophomore Jacob Murrell and junior Kieran Sargeant. Nielsen was a unanimous selection. Senior Kyle Linhares and sophomore Zach Zengue earned spots on the third team rounding out the Hoyas who were recognized.

After winning the regular season crown last week, marking GU's ninth in program history, the Hoyas downed Seton Hall in the BIG EAST First Round on Saturday by a score of 2-1 to advance the Blue & Gray to the BIG EAST Championship semifinal game on Thursday, November 9 at the Maryland SoccerPlex against fifth-seeded UConn.

Kenny Nielsen
Defensive Player of the Year, Unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST
  • Nielsen has started all 16 games he has appeared in and has one goal and one assist for three points on the season.
  • The team captain had the game winner against Pitt.
  • On defense, Nielsen organizes a backline that has posted six shutouts on the season.
  • Nielsen was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on 9/18.
  • He was the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection in August.
  • This is Nielsen's third-consecutive BIG EAST postseason award after earning a spot on the All-BIG EAST Third Team in both 2021 and 2022.
  • This is Georgetown's sixth-consecutive BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award with Daniel Wu winning it last year, Sean Zawadzki and Rio Hope-Gund receiving it once and Dylan Nealis earning the title twice.
Marlon Tabora
Co-Midfielder of the Year, First Team All-BIG EAST
  • Tabora has appeared in 15 games this season with six starts to his credit.
  • He is ranked third on the team in scoring with three goals and a team-high eight assists for 14 points on the year as well as one game winner.
  • He scored two goals in the win over UConn and tallied multiple assists twice this season.
  • The senior was a two-time BIG EAST Honor Roll selection on 10/2 and 10/9.
  • Tabora was a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree.
  • This is Tabora's second-career postseason award after being named Second Team All-BIG EAST a season ago.
  • It marks Georgetown's fifth-consecutive BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year award after Aidan Rocha won it last season, Dante Polvara earned the honor in two-consecutive years and Jacob Montes received it in 2019.
Ryan Schewe
Goalkeeper of the Year, First Team All-BIG EAST
  • Schewe has started all 11 games he appeared in this season.
  • The senior has a record of 8-1-2 with three shutouts on the year.
  • He boasts a 1.00 goals-against average and a 0.676 save percentage.
  • The goalkeeper has 23 saves this season.
  • He was the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection in August.
  • This is his second-career honor on the Hilltop after being named to the second team a season ago.
  • Georgetown's last BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year was Giannis Nikopolidis who won it in both 2019 and 2020.
Kieran Sargeant
First Team All-BIG EAST
  • Sargeant has started all 16 games he has appeared in on the backline.
  • He has one goal and six assists for eight points on the year.
  • The junior is part of a defense that has posted six shutouts this year.
  • He earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 9/25.
  • Sargeant was a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree.
  • This is his second-career postseason honor after earning a spot on the third team a season ago.
Jacob Murrell
First Team All-BIG EAST
  • Murrell leads the team in scoring with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points on the year.
  • He has an impressive six game winners on the season ranking him first in the BIG EAST and second in the nation.
  • Murrell had two goals and one assist in the opening match of the season, and has had multi-point games on three occasions.
  • He has started all 16 games for the Blue & Gray this year.
  • Murrell was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on 9/25 and earned spots on the Weekly Honor Roll on both 8/28 and 10/30.
  • This is his first-career honor on the Hilltop.
Kyle Linhares
Third Team All-BIG EAST
  • Linhares has started all 16 matches for the Hoyas with five goal and three assists for 13 points on the year ranking him fourth on the squad.
  • He had two goals and an assist in the win over Pitt earlier this year.
  • Linhares was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on 9/5.
  • This is his first-career honor on the Hilltop.
Zach Zengue
Third Team All-BIG EAST
  • Zengue has started all 16 games for the Blue & Gray and ranks second on the team in scoring with five goals and six assists for 16 points on the year.
  • He managed two goals against Xavier and tallied an impressive three assists in the victory over UNC Wilmington.
  • Zengue earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 10/23.
  • This is his first-career honor on the Hilltop.
BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year
  • Head Coach Brian Wiese, Assistant Coaches Connor Klekota, Brian Bouhl and Ryan Nelsen were named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year by the league's coaches.
  • This is the ninth time in Georgetown history that GU has earned the honor and the seventh time under Wiese as well as the third-consecutive honor (2023, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2015, 2013, 2010).
