Georgetown Hosts Wake Forest on Sunday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons in GU's final home nonconference matchup of the season on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 12-day break for final exams. It's last game was a solid 61-40 victory at Colgate on December 5.
  • For her efforts in the Colgate win, junior Brianna Scott was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. It marked the first weekly award of her career.
  • Scott scored a game high 21 points at Colgate, she was 7-of-9 from the field and added eight rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
  • It marked GU's sixth win in a row as the Hoyas have had a historic start to the season. GU's 8-1 record ties the best start for the Hoyas since the BIG EAST Conference began sponsoring women's basketball. The best start in program history dates back to a 16-1 record to open the 1979-80 campaign.
  • Senior Kelsey Ransom leads the team in almost all categories and is also among the league leaders.
  • Ransom is 11th in the league in scoring (15.6 ppg), 11th in rebounding (6.8 rpg), 11th in assists (3.3 apg) and leads the league with an impressive 3.2 steals per game.
  • Graduate student Graceann Bennett is second on the team with 9.1 ppg as well as 7.3 rpg, while Scott rounds out the top three with 8.9 ppf along with 6.6 rpg.
  • The Hoyas are leading the league and ranked second in the nation in scoring defense averaging 46.8 ppg.
About the Demon Deacons
  • Wake Forest is 3-7 on the season with victories over Wofford (75-65), Saint Louis (94-66) and, most recently, Norfolk State (51-46).
  • The squad is coming off of a long break as well after facing Norfolk State on December 10.
  • Three Deacs are averaging double figures as Kaia Harrison leads the way with 10.3 ppg followed by Elise Williams (10.2 ppg) and Malaya Cowles (10.0 ppg).
  • Wake Forest is coming off a historic first season under Head Coach Megan Gebbia that included a three-day run at the ACC Tournament and a trip to the second round of the WNIT.

  • Georgetown is 3-1 all-time against the Demon Deacons and 1-0 at home.
  • The last meeting was a 64-49 victory on the road during the 2010-11 campaign.
  • The long meeting at home was a 73-56 Hoya victory in 2009.
