Sgarlata Welcomes Nine Signees on National Signing Day

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Football Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the signing of nine players to National Letters of Intent to the incoming class of 2024 as part of college football's Signing Day. The nine student-athletes will come to the Hilltop as members of Georgetown's Class of 2028 and will join the Hoyas for the Fall 2024 season.

"I am extremely grateful to our coaches, staff and their families for all their work over the past year," said Sgarlata. "We are extremely excited to welcome this group of accomplished student-athletes to the Hoya football family. Each one of our new Hoyas brings their unique and incredibly strong academic and athletic resume to the Hilltop. Georgetown will provide them the opportunity to continue their pursuit of excellence both on and off the field. A special thanks to their families, coaches and mentors for their support throughout this process."

The nine newcomers hail from seven different states from California to Florida. Overall, the group includes five offensive players and four on defense.

Jonathan Alexander - Wide Receiver 
Alexander attended Rancho Christian in Temecula, California. The wide receiver started all four years while being a captain during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he helped his team make its first playoff appearance in seven years. Alexander was named First Team All-League as a defensive back in 2022 and both a defensive back and wide receiver in 2023. In addition to football, Alexander was also on the track & field team. 

"Jonathan is an extremely explosive athlete. We are very excited about his big play ability to our offense. He has shown the ability to turn short gains into game-breaking plays at receiver and on the special teams. He will immediately impact our offense and return game. "

Legend Bernard - Wide Receiver 
Bernard attended Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. The wide receiver was a starter during his junior and senior seasons and also was named captain as a senior. Bernard was named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region and First Team All-CUSD. While at Hamilton, Bernard tallied 63 receptions for 865 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, including four touchdown catches in a single game. In addition to football, Bernard participated in track and basketball.

"Legend's adds elite speed and ball skills to our receiver corp. He will add immediate value to our offense as an inside and outside threat. Most importantly, he is a fierce and physical competitor."

Michael Bonsu - Defensive Back 
Bonsu attended Dexter Southfield in Brookline, Massachusetts. The defensive back was a starter during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons and was named captain during his senior year. As a senior, Bonsu earned the Coaches Award along with being named All-League Evergreen. In addition to football, Bonsu was on the basketball and track teams. 

"Michael is an extremely gifted athlete who will add speed and man-to-man cover ability to our secondary. His short-area quickness and explosiveness stand out on film. He has the versatility to play several positions.  He will fit perfectly into our defensive scheme."

Jac Comeaux - Wide Receiver 
Comeaux attended Dunham School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The wide receiver was a starter during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons and was named captain as a senior. As a junior, Comeaux had a 1,000-yard season, was named Louisiana 2A offensive MVP and helped his team become the Louisiana State Championship runner-up. In 2022 and 2023, Comeaux was named First Team All-District, First Team All-Metro and First Team All-State. Comeaux was a multi-sport athlete in high school playing baseball and track and captured a basketball state championship in 2021. Comeaux comes from a long line of football players including his dad who played at LSU, his grandpa who played at LA Tech and in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and his Uncle who was on the team at Northwestern State. 

"Jac brings an elite skill set to our receiver room. He is a tremendous competitor who will add to the elite speed of our offense. He brings a physical edge to our receiver room."

Rylan Filipe - Offensive Lineman 
Filipe attended Snow Canyon High School in St. George, Utah. The offensive lineman was a starter during his junior and senior seasons. As a junior, Filipe helped his team capture the 2022 Regional Championship. In 2023 he was named First Team All-Region, First Team 4A All-State and Preseason First Team. In addition to football, Filipe was a starter on his rugby team. 

"Rylan is a dynamic athlete who has a great blend of size, length, and strength. He plays a violent brand of football that, in combination with his athleticism, will make him an impact player for our offense."

Hilton Hebert - Defensive Lineman 
Herbert attended Berkshire School in Morgan City, Louisiana. The defensive lineman was a starter all four years of high school and was named captain during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. While at Berkshire, Hebert led Louisiana 4A in sacks and tackles and was named All-District. In addition to football, Hebert also played basketball.

"Hilton is a violent defensive end with great length. He can rush the passer with both speed and power. His physical play will allow him to defeat blocks at the point of attack. Hilton adds to the versatility of our defensive line group."

Ryan Hussey - Defensive Lineman 
Hussey attended Carrollwood Day School in Lake Magdalene, Florida. The defensive lineman was a starter during his junior and senior seasons. Hussey helped his team to two regional finals appearances. In addition to football, Hussey was a thrower on the track and field team. Hussey set a school record in the javelin and was a regional finalist while also being named Best Male Thrower. 

"Ryan is a versatile athletic edge player with great length and size. He has the ability to be an impact player against both the run and pass. His versatility and toughness will be a great addition to our defensive line room."

Jack Johnson - Quarterback 
Johnson attended Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. The quarterback started during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons and was named captain as a junior and senior. In 2021 and 2022, he helped his team to a Region Six championship. As a sophomore and junior, Johnson was named offensive MVP and as a senior, he earned the MVP award. During his three seasons as a starter, Johnson earned All-Region First-Team honors. Johnson set the Brighton High School record in total passing yards (7,909), touchdowns (84) and total yards in a game. In addition to football, Johnson played baseball and was named All-Region Second Team as a junior.  

"Jack has all the tools to be an elite Patriot League QB. He has the arm talent to make all of the throws, great field vision to make great decisions, and high-end character to lead our offense."

Armstrong Jones - Defensive Back 
Jones attended Westminster School in Atlanta, Georgia. The defensive back was a starter during his junior and senior seasons and was a captain as a senior. During his time at Westminster, Jones was a two-time First Team All-Region honoree and earned two All-State Honorable Mentions. Jones also played lacrosse and captured a State Championship while on the team. Jones's brother Truman Jones played football at Harvard and is currently playing in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs. 

"Armstrong is a talented safety prospect who will bring a blend of length, range and physicality to our defensive secondary. He shows a desire to play the game physically and to take the football away from opponents."
