Georgetown Hosts No. 4/4 UConn at Entertainment and Sports Arena

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the No. 4/4 University of Connecticut Huskies in its National Girls and Women in Sports Day game on Saturday evening at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Southeast Washington, D.C. The opening tip for the BIG EAST matchup is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on SNY with Allen Bestwick and Meg Culmo on the call.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (12-12, 5-10 BIG EAST) fell at the hands of No. 15/18 Villanova 82-52 on Wednesday night at McDonough Arena.
  • Graduate Kristina Moore led the Hoyas with 12 points, while freshman Kennedy Fauntleroy managed 11 points and eight rebounds as well as two steals and as many assists. Junior Jada Claude also scored in double figures with 10 points in the game.
  • The Hoyas shot 31.8% (21-66) from the field, while allowing 46.3% (31-67) shooting by the Wildcats.
  • GU was outrebounded by Nova 46-36 in the game, and Georgetown forced 10 Wildcat turnovers on six steals.
  • Junior captain Kelsey Ransom is 16th in the league in scoring with 13.4 ppg as well as 14.1 ppg in league play.
  • She leads the league in steals with 2.8 spg which ranks her 21st in the nation, is ninth in the league on the glass with 7.0 rpg and 10th in the conference in assists managing 3.3 apg.
  • The junior captain leads the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals per game.
  • Just behind her is freshman Kennedy Fauntleroy with 11.4 ppg, the highest mark among freshmen in the BIG EAST.
About the Huskies
  • UConn is 21-4 on the season and 13-1 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • The Huskies are currently ranked No. 4 in both national polls.
  • UConn is coming off of a 59-52 loss to Marquette on Wednesday evening. Just three days prior, the Huskies had fallen to No. 1 South Carolina 81-77.
  • It marks the first time UConn has lost consecutive games since March of 1993.
  • UConn boasts four active players averaging in double figures led by Aaliyah Edwards who is averaging 16.8 ppg.
Series Information
  • The Hoyas are 6-50 all-time against the Huskies and 4-20 at home. They met twice last season including once in Hartford and in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal.
  • Earlier this season, Georgetown fell 65-50 at the XL Center. Junior Brianna Scott led the way as the lone Hoya in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • The last meeting at home was a 64-40 loss at McDonough Arena during the 2020-21 season.
  • The last home win for the Hoyas was a 65-60 triumph on January 3, 1992.
  • Georgetown's last win over UConn was February 27, 1993 when now-Associate Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler hit a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to get the 64-62 victory and snap a home win streak for the Huskies.
