Men’s and Women’s Tennis Take on Marquette and Army


WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's and women's tennis teams are back in action this weekend for their first BIG EAST matchups of the season. The Hoyas will take on Marquette University on Friday at the Woodmont Country Club. The men's match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. followed by the women's match at 7 p.m. Both teams will also face Army this weekend with the women's match slated for Saturday at 7 p.m. and the men's following on Sunday at noon.

"I am pumped up to be hosting our first BIG EAST matches of the season," said Head Coach Freddy Mesmer. "Both teams are squaring off against a tough opponent, Marquette. Both of our teams are in good form and are really making good strides on and off the court. I am excited to see them compete and continue to improve on the things we work on day in and day out."

About the Hoyas
  • The Blue & Gray (4-3) went 1-1 last weekend with a 4-3 win over Youngstown State after falling 4-1 to Richmond. 
  • Sophomore Jake Fellows went undefeated in singles play last weekend, collecting a 6-2, 6-2 win over Richmond's William Karpinski and a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Youngstown's Clement Mainguy.  
  • Kieran Foster and Zamaan Moledina are the winningest doubles team for the Hoyas so far. The senior and freshman duo are 4-3 this season. 
  • Last season the Hoyas captured a road win 4-3 over the Golden Eagles. After losing the doubles point, Georgetown locked down four singles wins to claim the conference victory.
  • Georgetown previously fell 4-3 to Army during the 2022 season. The Hoyas captured the doubles point to start the match but fell short in the tight singles battles. 
About Marquette
  • The Golden Eagles dropped to a 0-6 record after losing 4-3 to North Dakota and 5-2 to IUPUI last weekend. 
About Army
  • Army went 1-1 last weekend collecting a 4-0 win over Marist College before falling 4-3 to St. John's University. 
  • The Black Knights currently have a record of 6-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. 
  • Sophomore Vishnu Bodavula was named Patriot League Male Player of the Week for the week of January 31 for his wins in Army's victories over Sacred Heart and Fairfield.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is returning to action after going 1-1 in North Carolina two week ago. The Hoyas grabbed a 4-3 win over East Carolina before falling to Duke 7-0. 
  • The Hoyas are 3-2 on the season. 
  • During the 2022 season, the Hoyas dropped a 5-2 road decision to the Golden Eagles. 
  • Last season the Blue & Gray fell to Army 4-0.
  • About Marquette
  • The Golden Eagles dropped to a 0-6 record after losing 5-2 to North Dakota and 6-1 to Michigan State last weekend. 
About Army
  • The Black Knights went 1-1 last weekend with a 5-2 loss to Fordham followed by a 7-0 win over Vassar College. 
  • Senior Elizabeth Gilbert was named the Patriot League Women's Player of the Week for the Week of February 14 for her singles wins over UConn's Maria Constantinou (6-1, 6-4) and Vassar's Tatum Blalock (6-1, 6-1). 
  • Army currently sits at a 8-5 record this season.
