Hoyas Head to Wilmington for Third Weekend of Tournament Play

WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball heads south today for its third-straight weekend of tournament play. The Hoyas are playing in UNC Wilmington's Tournament in Wilmington, North Carolina from Friday, February 24 through Sunday, February 26. The Hoyas are set to play App State on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by a game against Eastern Kentucky at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday the Blue & Gray plays App State and EKU again at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively. To cap off the weekend Georgetown and tournament hosts UNCW are set to meet at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. All games are being played on UNCW's campus.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off a 2-2 weekend at the NSU-Hampton Classic where the Hoyas beat Bucknell 9-5 and Wagner 6-0 before falling to NCAA-contender Lehigh in a close 7-6 game in the 13th inning and a loss to Norfolk State 6-1.
  • Brooke Plonka went 2-1 over three games and earned herself a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll. She has a 2.04 ERA and has appeared in five of the seven games for the Hoyas this season.
  • Morgan Zamora and Claire Turner have been standouts for the Blue & Gray in their first seasons in the Hoya uniform. Zamora has 13 putouts while Turner has tallied 18. 
  • Georgetown is 2-5 on the season.
 
About the Mountaineers
  • Kaley Coltrain leads App State with a .364 average at the plate. The graduate student has four hits, one run with two doubles and two RBIs.
  • With a .350 batting average, Kayt Houston has two runs on seven hits and one double. 
  • Delani Buckner is 1-1 in her two appearances from the circle and has thrown four strikeouts for 38 at-bats. 
  • App State is 3-3 on the 2023 season thus far.
 
About the Colonels
  • Vianna Barron is .394 from the plate for Eastern Kentucky over 10 games this season. She has 12 runs, 13 hits with three of those being doubles, one triple and three home runs for 11 RBIs. 
  • Trailing Barrown with 10 hits and six runs is Jasmine Miller who is .345 at the plate over her 10 starts in 2023. The junior has four doubles and a triple with 11 total RBIs.
  • From the circle, Lauren Narvaez is 4-1 with a 4.67 ERA. The sophomore has had the most appearances for the Colonels in the circle.
  • EKU is 7-3 on the 2023 season.
