Hoyas Travel to No. 20/17 Providence

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to travel to Providence, Rhode Island for a midweek matchup with the No. 20/17 Providence Friars. Wednesday's matchup at Amica Mutual Pavilion is slated for 8 p.m. with the Hoyas coming off a 68-62 loss to then-No. 24/T23 UConn on Saturday. The Friars are coming off an 85-83 overtime loss at then-No. 16/15 Xavier last Wednesday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Wednesday's game with a 6-18 record and a 1-12 mark in BIG EAST play after falling to then-No. 24 UConn 68-62 at Capital One Arena on Saturday afternoon.
  • Brandon Murray led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 21 points on eight made field goals. Murray also chipped in four rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block.
  • In his second game back from injury, Jay Heath tallied 13 points off the bench on 5-of-11 shooting. Heath was able to add three rebounds, one assist and two steals while working his way back into the lineup.
  • Qudus Wahab was the third Hoya to reach double figures tallying 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks while Primo Spears dished out a squad-best five assists.
  • Spears' 16.1 ppg leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Murray (14.8 ppg), Heath (12.9 ppg) and Wahab (10.3 ppg).
  • On the glass, Wahab leads the team with 7.3 rpg while Akok Akok chips in 6.8 rpg.
  • Spears paces the offense with 5.3 apg, which is tied for second in the BIG EAST Conference and his 16.1 ppg are also good for fourth in the league. Akok's team-leading 2.0 bpg is tied for second in the league.
 
ABOUT THE No. 20/17 FRIARS
  • No. 20/17 Providence (17-6, 9-3 BE) is coming off an 85-83 overtime loss at then-No. 16/15 Xavier last Wednesday.
  • Five Friars reached double figures with Noah Locke and Ed Croswell leading the way with 22 points and 21 points, respectively. Locke was 6-of-7 from behind the arc while also chipping in five rebounds.
  • Croswell was efficient from the floor shooting 8-of-9 on the evening while also going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Devin Carter, Bryce Hopkins and Jared Bynum all reached double figures with 15, 10 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Four Friars average double figures with Hopkins leading the way with 16.1 ppg followed by Carter (13.1), Croswell (12.9) and Locke (10.8).
  • Hopkins and Croswell are lethal on the boards for Ed Cooley's squad averaging 9.3 rpg and 7.4 rpg respectively and Bynum's 4.5 apg paces the offense.
  • Cooley is in his 12th season as head coach of the Friars.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Wednesday's matchup will be the 80th all-time meeting between the two programs dating back to 1956 with the Hoyas holding a series lead of 47-32.
  • In their last contest, the Hoyas fell 71-52 at Capital One Arena. Aminu Mohammed led the Hoyas that day with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting while also chipping in four rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block.
