Men’s Tennis Travels to Annapolis, Hosts Youngstown in Weekend Matches

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's tennis team will travel to Annapolis, Maryland on Friday to play a match against the University of Richmond at 7 p.m. hosted by Navy. The Hoyas will return home on Saturday to face Youngstown State University at 11 a.m.

About the Hoyas
  • The Blue & Gray are coming off a sweeping weekend with a 6-1 win over St. Francis College Brooklyn and a 4-3 victory over Navy. 
  • Sophomore Jake Fellows was named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week after collecting a 6-2, 6-4 win over St. Francis' Assil Boussayri and a 6-4, 6-4 win against Gavin Segraves to secure the Hoyas win over Navy.
  • Georgetown is 3-2 on the season.  
  • Last season the Hoyas were victorious against Richmond (4-3) and Youngstown State (5-2).
About Richmond
  • The Spiders are riding a three match win streak after wins against Binghamton (4-0), Brown (4-3) and Army (4-0) last weekend. 
  • Graduate student Alex Wernink was named A-10 Performer of the Week for the week of Feb 6. In Richmond's sweeping weekend, Wernink posted three singles wins as well as three doubles wins with partner John Walsh.  
About Youngstown
  •  The Penguins picked up three wins last weekend against St. Francis Brooklyn (4-3), Duquesne (7-0) and Navy (6-1).
  • Laurentiu Mandocescu was named Horizon League Player of the Week for his three singles wins. The senior recorded his 50th career singles win in a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over Duquesne's David Georgadze.
