WASHINGTON – The Georgetown sailing teams took third place of eight teams at the John Jackson Memorial Team Race this past weekend on the Potomac. The John Jackson Memorial Team Race regatta is named for John T. Jackson ('03), a beloved member of the sailing team who passed away in the summer after graduation in a tragic accident in Chicago.

• Jeffrey Petersen, Eva Fortunato; Edward Cook, Morgan Rice; Diego Escobar, Addi Harris; Mariner Fagan, Audrey Fung; Mateo Di Blasi, Diego Escobar, Spencer Kriegstein, Emily Panarella, Piper Holthus, Caro Gaston.
• Winds gusting close to 40 mph greeted the sailors on Saturday and postponements on land allowed the winds to lighten and the temperature to rise. The racing saw puffs over 35 mph and 30 degrees wind shifts as well as a few capsizes and many breakdowns before the end of the first round.
• Sunday featured races sailed in a very light ENE wind before the wind died completely. After a postponement, the wind filled in a bit and a few more races were sailed before the race committee decided to try for a top six instead of a round two. Unfortunately, it became apparent that the top six wouldn't finish in time so racing was called for the day after the final sail off race occurred.
• Georgetown went 4-3 in its races with wins over Connecticut College (1-3-6), Fordham (1-2-4), Kings Point (2-3-4) and New York Maritime (2-3-4). GU also had a sail off with Connecticut College and Fordham resulting in the 2-0 victory.
