Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball played Seton Hall twice on Saturday in a doubleheader after Sunday's game was canceled due to weather. The Pirates beat the Hoyas 4-3 in game one, and the Hoyas won 10-1 in game two. The Hoyas are now 6-18 overall, 2-3 in BIG EAST play, while Seton Hall heads to 12-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
How It Happened
Game 1 vs. the Pirates
- The Hoyas started hot early in the top of the first as Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza ripped a double off the wall to score Mae Forshey and Morgan Zamora to put the Hoyas up 2-0.
- With two outs and two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the second Kayla Dunn got a huge strikeout to limit the Pirates and keep the Hoyas on top.
- Dunn once again got out of a jam in the bottom of the third, getting back-to-back outs to end the inning after allowing two runners on base.
- A solo homer and a couple of RBI singles by the Pirates in the bottom of the fourth would give Seton Hall a 3-2 lead heading into the fifth.
- Seton Hall would strike again in the fifth as the Pirates tacked on a single with two outs which allowed a run to score on an error to push their lead to 4-2.
- Dunn kept the Hoyas in it with an RBI double to score Forshey in the top of the sixth to cut the Hoya deficit to one (4-3).
- Julia Parker sent down the Pirates in order in the bottom of the sixth to give the Hoyas the opportunity to battle back in the seventh.
- With two outs in the top of the seventh, Kacy Lyman reached on an error and Cameron Kondo and Zamora drew walks to keep the Hoyas alive, but the Blue & Gray could not bring the runners home as Seton Hall held on for the 4-3 win.
Game 2 vs. the Pirates
- Georgetown and Seton Hall went scoreless through the first inning, with Brooke Plonka tallying two strikeouts for the Hoyas.
- In the top of the third, Zamora hit a sacrifice fly to send Claire Turner across the plate.
- The Hoyas tacked another onto their lead with a catching error allowing Kondo to score. The 2-0 score would stand through the fifth inning.
- Vasquez-Inzunza singled but advanced to second off an error to start the sixth inning. With Kiaris Alvarado Rojas running for Vasquez-Inzunza, a double by Sophia Scarangella would send Rojas across the plate while Gabby Park advanced to third.
- A ground ball from Claire Turner would send Park across the plate and bring the score to 4-0 Hoyas.
- A homer from Kondo would tack on another two RBIs to the Hoya lead by sending Scarangella home, and the score would remain 6-0 going into the seventh.
- With Park and Dayanara Campos on base, a ground ball from Samantha Miller sent Campos home. An additional single from Kondo would send Lyman and Park across the plate, tacking on another two runs.
- A wild pitch allowed Kondo to score, bringing the Hoya lead to 10.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Seton Hall would tack on 1 run, but ultimately secure the Hoya victory 10-1.
Hoya Highlight
- Plonka pitched the first five innings of game one before Julia Parker stepped in to relieve. Plonka struck out seven batters while Parker struck out four and collectively the duo gave up only seven hits.
- Plonka went on to pitch all seven innings of game two, managing another three strikeouts and giving up only six hits.
- Kondo hit her sixth home run of the season.
