Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Villanova in Top-10 Showdown

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team closes out the 2023 regular season with a top-10 showdown against No. 10/11 Villanova, presented by Invesco QQQ, in BIG EAST action on Friday night at 7 p.m. The No. 7/8 Hoyas look to complete their second-straight undefeated BIG EAST season and clinch the top-seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP next week in Milwaukee.

About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are 9-3 on the year and 4-0 in BIG EAST play following an 18-12 road win at St. John's on Saturday. With the win, the Blue & Gray clinched at least a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for the third-straight season.
  • Against the Red Storm, Jacob Kelly led Georgetown with four goals and three assists while Tucker Dordevic added four goals to go with two assists.
  • Nicky Solomon added three goals and an assist, Patrick Crogan and Jordan Wray both scored twice, Brian Minicus had a goal and four assists while Graham Bundy Jr. and Will Tominovich found the back of the cage as well.
  • James Reilly won 18-of-25 (.720) faceoffs and collected 16 ground balls.
  • Defensively, Tominovich was credited with four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • In goal, Danny Hincks (3-3) collected 12 saves.
  • For their efforts, Dordevic was named the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week, Wray was selected as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and Reilly garnered Weekly Honor Roll recognition while also earning a spot on the USILA Team of the Week for becoming just the ninth NCAA Division I player to collect 500 career ground balls.
  • Dordevic leads the Hoyas with 50 points (42G, 8A) while Minicus has 39 (21G, 18A) and Kelly adds 36 (18G, 18A). Bundy has 29 points (22G, 7A) while Solomon is good for 24 (17G, 7A), Declan McDermott has 19 (14G, 5A), TJ Haley has tallied 17 assists, Crogan adds 15 points (11G, 4A) and Reilly has 11 (7G, 4A).
  • Reilly has won 176-of-297 (.593) faceoffs while collecting 129 ground balls. He has hauled in at least 10 ground balls in nine of Georgetown's 12 games this season.
  • Defensively, Will Bowen has been credited with 22 caused turnovers to lead the BIG EAST with 1.83 a game. Tominovich chips in 18 and Wallace Halpert adds 17.
  • In goal, Hincks is 3-3 on the year with a 10.93 goals-against average to go with a .525 save percentage and 64 saves. Michael Scharfenberger has posted a 6-0 record with an 11.17 GAA to go with a .425 save percentage and 54 total saves.
  • As a team, Georgetown leads the nation in man-up offense, converting at a .636 clip. The Hoyas are also top-10 nationally in ground balls per game (second overall, 40.50), clearing (second overall, .921) and fewest turnovers (sixth overall, 14.17).
Scouting Villanova
  • The Wildcats are 10-3 on the year and 3-1 in league play, coming off of a hard-fought 16-15 overtime win against Marquette on Saturday.
  • Matt Campbell leads Villanova with 57 points (34G, 23A) while Patrick Daly adds 44 (37G, 4A), Austin Fraser has 37 (20G, 17A) and Matt Licata chips in 34 points (22G, 12A).
  • The main faceoff specialist for Villanova is Justin Coppola at 161-281 (.573) on the season with 105 ground balls.
  • On the defensive end, Reid Colwell has been credited with 21 caused turnovers and 33 ground balls while Chet Comizio has 10 caused turnovers and 43 ground balls.
  • In goal, Will Vitton has started all 13 games for the Wildcats and owns a 10.31 GAA and a .502 save percentage to go with 133 saves on the year.
Series History
  • The Hoyas and Wildcats have played 40 times dating back to 1971 with both sides splitting the series 20-20.
  • Georgetown won the last meeting, a 14-12 victory on the Hilltop in the 2022 BIG EAST Championship game, and has won the last eight showdowns.
