Hoyas Place Fourth Competing for America Trophy

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown sailing team took fourth competing for the America Trophy this past weekend in Norfolk, Virginia at the event hosted by Old Dominion. The Hoyas boasted seven All-MAISA honorees as well as two finalists for major awards.

America Trophy
4th of 18
  • After waiting for the breeze to fill in, seven teams in each division were completed by sunset.
  • Sunday saw a good breeze from the SE filling in this morning blowing 8-12 knots. Five races in each division were completed before weather forced the fleet from the water. It was decided that the storm was going to continue past the cutoff time, and so racing was suspended.
  • Georgetown finished in fourth with 73 points in A and 72 in B for a total of 145 on the weekend.
  • Spencer Kriegsteon was named a finalist for MAISA Crew of the Year, and Piper Holthus was a finalist for MAISA Women's Sailor of the Year.
  • Additionally, Kriegstein and Addi Harris were both All-MAISA Open Crew First Team honorees, while Audrey Fung and Carolina Gaston earned spots on the second team.
Up Next
  • The Hoyas will now break for finals and graduation before competing at the ICSA National Championship in Kings Point, New York at the end of May.
