WASHINGTON – Senior captain
Pieter DeGroot and junior
Ryan Moylan both qualified for the Maryland State Open this past weekend at a dual qualifying event hosted by the Maryland State Golf Association.
Moylan qualified for both the Maryland State Open and the Maryland State Amateur after shooting a 72 even-par at Congressional Country Club on Tuesday, May 16. The junior came out of the gates on the first nine shooting four-over par carding a 40 on the front nine. At the turn, Moylan found the next gear and recorded five birdies and one bogey on the back nine to shoot an even 72.
DeGroot qualified for the Maryland State Open carding a 76 at the par-72 TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. DeGroot is coming off a season that saw him finish third overall at the BIG EAST Championships posting a three-round score of 2-under par. DeGroot helped lead the Blue & Gray to a fourth-place finish in his final outing as a Hoya.
Both DeGroot and Moylan will compete in the Maryland State Open July 10-12 at Hillendale Country Club.
