WASHINGTON – Georgetown University junior
Eli Rabinowitz and freshman William Chesner were both named 2023 Empacher Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) Second Team All-Americans on Tuesday. Additionally, junior
Andrew Tokarski and sophomore Finn Callaghan both earned honorable mention nods. This is just the third season the IRCA has awarded All-America honors and the second time the Hoyas have earned the honor.
Chesner and Callaghan were both members of the lightweight 4+ boat that won a national championship at IRAs earlier this month. Additionally, Tokarski competed in the varsity 8+ boat at IRAs. Rabinowitz is a two-time honoree earning the award a season ago.
In order to be named an "All-American", rowers and coxswains must have met the following criteria: the student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules defined by their institution, the student must have raced in their team's varsity boat for the current spring racing season, the student-athlete must be nominated by their institution and the head coach of the student athlete's institution must be in good standing with the IRCA.
Nominated student-athletes are then selected by the IRCA Board of Directors to "First Team", "Second Team", or "Honorable Mention" based on the following criteria: strength of finish of the institution's varsity boat, nomination Rank within institution and coach's comments, individual achievements and erg score.
There were 100 rowers and coxswains who met the criteria to be named a First Team, Second Team or Honorable Mention All-American. They represent 35 teams (27 heavyweight and eight lightweight) from the 55-member programs.
