Four Hoyas Set to Compete in 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team has three former student-athletes and one current student-athlete competing in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia.
 
Kyra Carusa, Daisy Cleverley, Maya Alcantara and Lara Larco are the four Hoyas set to compete in the games. Carusa will represent Ireland, Clevery will represent New Zealand, Alcantara will represent the Philippines and Larco will represent Haiti.
 
Carusa spent one season at the Hilltop as a graduate transfer after playing at Stanford for four years. Carusa started all 25 games of the 2018 campaign for the Hoyas and recorded 10 goals and 12 assists.
 
Cleverley spent two years at Georgetown playing 14 games in 2020 for GU and playing 19 games in 2021. Cleverley scored four goals and had three assists in her two seasons on the Hilltop. Cleverley has played in two Olympic games and will be playing in her second World Cup after playing in the 2015 games in Canada.
 
Alcantara spent one year on the Hilltop playing in and starting 14 games for the Hoyas. Alcantara helped GU capture its third-consecutive BIG EAST Championship in 2022 and played in both the NCAA tournament games for GU this past season.
 
Larco enters her third season in the Blue & Gray and will compete in her first World Cup for Haiti this summer. Larco has not seen game action in the Blue & Gray but will be competing for the starting goalkeeping job for the Haitian national team.
