WASHINGTON – Georgetown University swept the 2022-23 BIG EAST Scholar-Athletes of the Year awards as
Will Bowen of men's lacrosse and
Julia Leas of women's soccer earned the honors for the academic year which were announced on Tuesday by the league.
The awards are the top scholar-athlete honors given by the conference. Both Bowen and Leas will receive a $4,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies. The selections were made by the Conference's Academic Affairs Committee.
This marks just the third honor for the Hoyas on both the men's and women's sides since its inception in 1985, including a sweep in 2021-22 by cross country/track & field's Maggie Donahue and men's soccer's Dante Polvara. Previous GU winners also include Steve Holman from the men's track & field team in 1992 and Nicole Lee from the women's cross country/track & field team in 2005. This is also just the seventh time in league history that one school has swept the award.
