No. 16/20 Georgetown Downs LMU

WASHINGTON – The No. 16/20 Hoyas downed Loyola Marymount 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 1-0-1 while the Lions slide to 0-2-0.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"First off, I have to congratulate the girls on finding a way to win a game in possibly the most difficult circumstances to play a game. An impending hurricane, a moved up kick off, a monsoon to play in and knowing that we need to have a goal scored by the 70th minute or risk the game being tied or even lost due to the weather cancellation.

We didn't play as well as we wanted but, credit to LMU and their staff for having a plan to keep the game tight and executing it well. It took a moment of composure and hustle to fashion a goal that Erika Harwood finished brilliantly. We now have to get home and prepare for Bucknell on Thursday."

About the Match
  • Neither team looked particularly dangerous early on as the squads settled into the match.
  • Georgetown's offense posted seven shots with one on frame in the first half. The Hoyas also earned seven corner kicks to the Lions' one.
  • The score would remain deadlocked at half despite the Hoyas' offensive pressure.
  • In the 48th minute, the Hoya offense would strike for the first time as Erika Harwood blistered a shot into the top right corner off an assist from Henley Tippins giving GU a 1-0 lead.
  • The Hoya defense would hold strong as LMU began generating more offense, recording three shots after the Hoya goal.
  • GU was able to fend off the comeback efforts from the Lions and capture its first win of the season 1-0.

Notable Stats
  • Harwood recorded her first goal of the season and third of her career in the second half.
  • Tippins notched her first point of the season with the assist on Harwood's goal.
  • Allie Augur recorded one save en route to her first clean sheet of the season.
