WASHINGTON – The Georgetown sailing team continued its hot start to the season with two more wins this past weekend.  The Hoyas sent a large squad to the Naval Academy to compete in three separate events, two for the coed team and one for the women's team. GU came away with a pair of victories for the coed team and a second-place finish in the women's event. 

Chesapeake Invitational
1st of 6

• The Chesapeake Invitational featured six of the top teams in the MAISA Conference each with three boats. 
• The Hoyas started off neck and neck with the ODU team, but over the course of the two-day event, were able to build up a comfortable lead which stretched to 39 points when racing ended Sunday. 
• Host Navy finished third with 70 points behind GU. 
• Mariner Fagan and Emily Panarella finished first overall with 45 points, while Mateo DiBlasi and Addi Harris placed second with 50 points. 
• Juniors Diego Escobar and Marguerite Montagner came in fifth with 66 points to their credit. 

Chesapeake Open
1st, 4th, 6th, 9th, 17th of 18

• The Chesapeake Open regatta had five Georgetown boats among the 18 competitors. 
• Once again, the Hoyas outsailed the competition. Winning the event by 20 points were the team of Enzo Menditto and Spencer Kriegstein.  The pair won six of the last seven races and proved to be fast in all conditions. 
• Juniors Jeffrey Petersen and Carolina Gaston finished fourth overall, while sophomores Benjamin Smith and Alexis Tamm ended up in sixth.
• Sophomores Kelly Bates and Margot Gordon finished ninth, and rounding out the finishers for the Hoyas were Xavier Stoldt with crews Vaughn Slatoff and Olivia Bartilucci who ended up 17th overall.

Faye Bennet Invitational
2nd, 11th, 14th, 18th of 18

• The women's team competed in the MAISA Singlehanded Conference Championship in the laser radial class.
• It was a hard-fought event and the lead changed many times. 
• In the end, junior Piper Holthus was edged finishing second overall and just narrowly missing out on the win. 
• While Holthus didn't earn an automatic berth for the national championship, her second-place finish will be good enough to receive an at-large selection for the regatta. 
• Sophomore Alexa Shea put in a solid performance finishing 11th overall, while freshman Isabel Massey secured 14th overall and senior Harper Cartwright ended up in 18th.

• Next weekend, the Hoyas will compete at the MAISA Match Racing Championship hosted by Navy as well as the Top 9 regatta at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
