WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's Head Rowing Coach Jim Granger has named Ethan Shoemaker as the new head coach of the men's lightweight rowing program. Shoemaker comes to the Hilltop from the Naval Academy where he was an Assistant Rowing Coach for the past three seasons and the Recruiting Coordinator for the past two seasons. Before his time at Navy, he was the Lead Men's Rowing Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Stetson University from 2017 to 2021.
Shoemaker joins the Hoyas after helping Navy's fifth Varsity Eight earn an undefeated regular season in 2021. Shoemaker also helped lead Stetson University Men's Rowing to earn the largest improvement in the history of the Row2K.com CMAX poll.
The Westerville, Ohio native was a co-captain at Marietta College for their men's Freshman Rowing Team in 2009. Shoemaker also managed operations of the Space Coast Crew Club for five years, where he ran team operations, was in charge of developing athletes, and managed a staff of fellow coaches and mentors.
"I am both proud and grateful to have the opportunity to lead the Georgetown Lightweight Men's Rowing Team. Having the ability to lead this great team, at this great school, is certainly a dream come true for me. I want to thank Jim Grainger and Patrick McArdle for giving me this opportunity. Through the interview process, I was impressed with the work they are doing to elevate this program; as well as the maturity, toughness, and determination of the student-athletes here at Georgetown. I am looking forward to helping to build the best team in our league through a student-athlete centered holistic approach." - Lightweight Head Coach Ethan Shoemaker.
"We are very excited to have Ethan leading the G150s. His track record and experience with our league will help lay a foundation for lightweights to build upon "- Men's Rowing Head Coach Jim Granger
