Georgetown Travels to UCLA Pod for Second Round of NCAA Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team will travel to Los Angeles, California for the second round of the 2024 NCAA Women's Soccer Championships. GU will face the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday night with kickoff slated for 4 p.m. PT at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown (13-3-4, 8-1-1 BE) is coming off a 3-0 victory over the Fairfield Stags in the first round of the NCAA Championships. GU has now advanced to the second round for the fifth-consecutive season. The last time the Hoyas made it past the second round was in 2020 when the Blue & Gray made it to the Sweet 16 before falling to TCU in penalty kicks.
  • Against Fairfield, Maja Lardner, Jocelyn Lohmeyer and Natalie Means all tallied a goal en route to GU's 14th shutout of the season. Lardner tallied her 11th goal of the season while Means added her fifth goal and her seventh assist, a mark good for first on the squad.
  • The quartet of Lardner, Means, Eliza Turner and Henley Tippins has combined for 73 of Georgetown's 122 points this season. The group has tallied more than half of the squads' goals with 28 and has recorded 17 assists.
  • Lardner was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year after tallying a league-best 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists. In conference action, Lardner tallied six goals and four assists. The senior earned four weekly honors this season, three of which were Offensive Player of the Week honors.
  • Cara Martin was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year after posting a 0.20 GAA across 18 games this season. In conference play, Martin boasts a 0.17 GAA and has conceded one goal in 527 minutes of action. The junior went 8-0 in conference action and contributed to all seven of GU's conference shutouts.
  • Georgetown's coaching staff was named the 2024 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Blue & Gray to a 12-2-4 record this season. The last time Head Coach Nolan and his staff were recognized was in 2022 when the Hoyas went 15-2-5 while earning a spot in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Lardner, Martin, Turner, Means and Lawson Renie all earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Lizzie Heller earned a nod to the All-BIG EAST Third Team after a remarkable freshman campaign on the Hilltop.
  • GU ranks third nationally in shutout percentage (0.700) and third nationally in goals against average (0.450).
  • Georgetown currently ranks ninth nationally in shots per game (19.47), second in the nation in corner kicks per game (8.30) and 20th in shots on goal per game (8.25).
  • GU ranks in the top 35 nationally in 11 different statistical categories. GU is top five nationally in corner kicks per game, goals against average, shutout percentage and penalty kicks.
ABOUT IOWA
  • Iowa (14-2-4, 8-2-1 B1G) defeated Missouri State 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Championships behind goals from Meike Ingles and Maggie Johnston.
  • Berit Parten paces the Hawkeye offense with seven goals and three assists this season. Meike Ingles and Parten are tied for the team lead in points with 17 apiece.
  • Macy Enneking has logged 1,818 minutes in goal this season and boasts a 0.54 GAA. Enneking has tallied 10 shutouts while recording 56 saves.
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Friday's matchup will be the first meeting in program history between the two sides.
  • The Hoyas and the Hawkeyes had a common opponent this season in Penn State. GU and the Nittany Lions ended in a scoreless draw while the Hawkeyes were able to edge out PSU 2-1 in a late September contest.
