Georgetown Men’s Basketball Set to Host Wagner at McDonough Arena

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to host the Wagner College Seahawks on Tuesday evening at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS1. The Blue & Gray enters Wednesday's contest with a 4-1 record following an 82-65 win over Saint Francis on Saturday at Capital One Arena.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown heads into Tuesday's game following a victory over the Saint Francis Red Flash, 82-65, at Capital One Arena to improve to 4-1 on the season.
  • Micah Peavy and Jayden Epps powered the Hoya offense, each delivering season-best performances. Peavy scored 24 points, connecting on 10 field goals, while Epps added 23 points. Malik Mack contributed to the effort with 11 while also leading Georgetown on the boards with seven rebounds. Peavy directed the offense with a team-high six assists and the team shot 43.5% (30-for-69) from the field.
  • Thomas Sorber earned his second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week nod following an impressive performance over two victories, averaging 11.5 ppg, 8.5 rbg, 3.5 apg, 2.0 spg, and 2.0 bpg while shooting an efficient 10-of-14 from the field. Epps received BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for his 21.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 spg and a season-best 23 points over Saint Francis.
  • Last week, Peavy scored the 1,000th career point of his collegiate career just one game after recording his 500th career rebound.
  • GU ranks first in the BIG EAST in offensive rebounds averaging 14.6 per game. Sorber is third in the league grabbing 8.6 rpg with Drew Fielder and Mack following, pulling down 5.0 rpg apiece.
  • Epps' (16.8 ppg) ranks fifth in the BIG EAST Conference and leads a quartet of Hoyas in double figures followed by Sorber (16.0), Peavy (14.4) and Mack (11.8).
  • Dishing out 4.6 apg to rank eighth in the conference, Mack is pacing GU's offense while Peavy's 2.8 spg is good enough for second in the BIG EAST.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who enters his 19th season as a collegiate head coach and his second with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE WAGNER SEAHAWKS
  • Wagner enters Tuesday's contest with a 3-3 record, after defeating Springfield College 81-46 on Saturday. Zaire Williams led the way for the Seahawks in scoring, totaling 19 points on nine made field goals. Ja'Kair Sanchez and Tyje Kelton were right behind Williams, totaling 12 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Wagner's offensive attack is led by Rahmir Moore (9.5 ppg), Williams (8.8 ppg)  and Javier Ezquerra (8.7 ppg).
  • On the glass, R.J. Greene's 5.8 rpg leads the Seahawks.
  • Head Coach Donald Copeland enters his third season at the helm of Wagner. Copeland led the Seahawks to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 21 years and their first-ever win, a 71-68 victory over Howard in the 2024 First Four.
  • Under Copeland, Wagner became the lowest-seeded team since 1999 to win the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament in 2024.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH WAGNER
  • The Blue & Gray holds a 2-0 all-time record against Wagner dating back to 1977. The last time the two squads met was on February 9, 1980, when Georgetown won 89-75.
  • Both meetings have taken place at McDonough Arena.
  • This is Cooley's second matchup against Wagner. He holds a 10-0 record versus the NEC.
