Georgetown Men’s Basketball Faces UAlbany on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to host the University at Albany Great Danes on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS2. The Blue & Gray enter Wednesday's contest with a 5-1 record following a 66-41 win over Wagner College on Tuesday at McDonough Arena.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown heads into Saturday's game at 5-1 on the season following a victory over the Wagner College Seahawks, 66-41, at McDonough Arena.
  • Malik Mack led the offensive attack for the Hoyas, tallying 16 points on four made field goals. Micah Peavy and Jordan Burks rounded out a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 15 and 10, respectively. Fresh off a BIG EAST freshman of the week nod, Thomas Sorber led the Hoyas in rebounds with seven. Sorber paced the offense for GU, tallying a season-high six assists. As a team, GU shot 43.1% (22-for-51) from the floor and 31.8% (7-for-22) from behind the arc.
  • The Blue & Gray held Wagner to just 41 points, the lowest point total by an opposition since January 31, 2015 when the Hoyas beat Creighton 67-40. Georgetown forced 18 turnovers on 14 steals and held Wagner to just 28.0% from the floor, the lowest mark an opponent had against the Hoyas since Coppin State (27.3%) on December 8, 2020 in an 80-48 victory.
  • GU ranks first in the BIG EAST in offensive rebounds averaging 14.2 per game. Sorber is third in the league grabbing 8.3 rpg with Drew Fielder and Mack following, pulling down 4.8 and 4.7 rpg respectively.
  • Sorber's (14.8 ppg) leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, with Peavy and Epps at 14.5 ppg a piece and Mack with 12.5 ppg.
  • Georgetown is second in the BIG EAST in steals and 22nd in the country, averaging 10.2 per game. Peavy is currently leading the BIG EAST and ranks fourth nationally with 3.2 steals per game.
  • On Monday, Sorber earned his second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week nod following an impressive performance over two victories, averaging 11.5 ppg, 8.5 rbg, 3.5 apg, 2.0 spg, and 2.0 bpg while shooting an efficient 10-of-14 from the field. Epps received BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for his 21.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 spg and a season-best 23 points over Saint Francis.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who enters his 19th season as a collegiate head coach and his second with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE UALBANY GREAT DANES
  • UAlbany enters Saturday's contest with a 5-2 record, after falling to American University 81-77 on Sunday. Justin Neely led a trio of Great Danes in double figures with 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor. Byron Joshua and Kheni Briggs were right behind Neely with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
  • Joshua leads UAlbany in scoring, averaging 14.0 ppg followed by Neely's 11.9 ppg and Amar'e Marshall;'s 10.2 ppg.
  • On the glass, Neely's 5.9 rpg leads the Great Danes.
  • Head Coach Dwyane Killings enters his fourth season at the helm of UAlbany, owning a 29-62 record. Last season, the Great Danes had a 13-19 record overall and a 5-11 record in the America East.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH UALBANY
  • Saturday's contest will be the first ever matchup between the two teams.
  • The game marks Cooley's fourth all-time matchup against the Great Danes. He holds a 3-0 record against UAlbany and a 19-1 record against the America East.
  • Georgetown holds an all-time record of 9-0 against teams currently in the America East.
