Georgetown Men’s Basketball Travels to Syracuse for 100th All-Time Meeting

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will travel to face the Syracuse University Orange on Saturday afternoon at JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York. Tipoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network. The Blue & Gray enters Saturday's contest with a 7-2 record following a 73-60 defeat at West Virginia on Friday in Morgantown.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown enters Saturday's game at 7-2 following a 73-60 loss at WVU on Friday night in Morgantown, West Virginia. Against the Mountaineers, Jayden Epps led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the floor. Thomas Sorber and Malik Mack rounded out those in double figures totaling 13 and 10, respectively. Fielder led the Hoyas on the glass, grabbing eight boards, followed by Peavy who pulled down five. Sorber's trio of assists paced the offense and Mack totaled a trio of steals for the defense.
  • Sorber leads the Hoyas in scoring with 15.4 ppg, followed by Epps (14.2 ppg), Peavy (13.6 ppg) and Mack (12.7 ppg). All four are ranked among the top 30 in scoring in the BIG EAST. 
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass grabbing 8.3 rpg to rank second in the league, followed by Drew Fielder who's pulling down 5.6 rpg and Mack (4.3 rpg).
  • Peavy is tied for fifth in the country and leads the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 3.0 pockets per game. 
  • Defensively, the team ranks second in the league and 15th nationally in steals per game (10.1). The Hoyas are forcing opponents to commit 16.22 turnovers per game, which ranks 25th nationally and second in the conference. 
  • Sorber has three double-doubles to his name, tied for second in the league. 
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who enters his 19th season as a collegiate head coach and his second with Georgetown. He picked up his 350th career win this season as the Hoyas defeated UMBC 86-62 on December 2. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year. 
 
ABOUT THE ORANGE
  • Syracuse enters Saturday's matchup with a 5-4 record following a 102-85 win over UAlbany on Tuesday, December 10. Donnie Freeman led the way for the Orange with 24 points on an efficient 10-for-13 shooting from the floor. Chris Bell was right behind with 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting and Jyáre Davis, Jaquan Carlos and Kyle Cuffe Jr. rounded out five Orange in double figures finishing with 15, 12 and 10, respectively.
  • J.J. Starling leads Syracuse in scoring with 19.8 ppg, followed by Freeman (14.0 ppg), Bell (12.8 ppg) and Davis (10.7 ppg).
  • On the glass, Freeman leads the Orange pulling down 8.7 rpg.
  • Head Coach Adrian Autry enters his second season at the helm of Syracuse. In 2023-24, Autry posted a 20-12 overall record, while going 11-9 in conference play.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH SYRACUSE
  • Saturday's game will be the 100th all-time meeting between the two teams dating back to 1930. 
  • Georgetown trails the all-time series 54-45. The last win for the Blue & Gray was a 79-75 win at Capital One Arena on December 11, 2021.  
  • This will be the sixth time Coach Cooley has faced the Orange in his career. He is 0-5 against Syracuse all-time following the 2023 meeting. This will be the second meeting between Cooley and Autry. 
  • All-time, Georgetown boasts a 174-153 record against schools currently in the ACC Conference. Cooley holds a 11-20 record against the conference.
