Lori Murphy Named 2024 Outstanding Ticketing Professional by INTIX

WASHINGTON – Director of Ticketing Sales and Operations Lori Murphy received the award for Outstanding Ticketing Professional at the INTIX 2024 Honors earlier this month.

INTIX, the International Ticketing Association, is a global non-profit organization of more than 1,000 ticketing, sales, marketing, technology, and finance professionals who operate in a diverse range of industries and institutions including arts, sports, and entertainment venues.

Murphy was one of nine nominees for the award, which INTIX said in their full press release of the event "recognizes a colleague who sets a standard of excellence for other INTIX members regarding leadership, achievement, and professionalism." The award also acknowledges deep involvement and participation in INTIX through a committed embodiment of the organization's membership and mission.

In the presentation of her award, INTIX emphasized Murphy's longstanding leadership in the ticketing community as an INTIX member for 21 years and an industry veteran who sold her first tickets from a ticket rack at her undergraduate alma mater Missouri State University (SMSU). The award also recognized Murphy's impressive career achievements, including large events across collegiate and professional sports such as two NCAA championships, WNBA postseason and finals, an All-Star game, the World Series, two new venue openings, a papal mass and global celebrity concerts.

In addition to her achievements, INTIX highlighted Murphy's philosophical approach to ticketing as highly innovative and collaborative. For example, Murphy's belief that "working in ticketing can be and is sexy" was mentioned in her introduction as part of her leadership in bringing ticketing to the younger generation of professionals and consumers. Beyond that, one of her supporters remarked on her team-building in the Washington, D.C. ticketing region, saying, "Lori recently led the revitalization of our local INTIX regional in the Washington, D.C. area and has taken on a leadership role within that organization. Since the re-start, the group has become much more active, and many local ticketing professionals have shared their excitement about this opportunity to connect."

Before joining Georgetown Athletics Ticket Office in 2021, Murphy led the Washington Nationals ticketing team in many aspects, such as creating and executing non-baseball event sales, selling season suites, and converting and updating venues in PV. Reflecting on her experience before becoming a Hoya, what Murphy remembers most is bringing joy and connection to the people who partake in these events.

"In my career, I have closed and opened buildings, and I have seen changes to venues when the Title XI and ADA laws came into play in the mid-1990s. However, my greatest achievement was reopening Nationals Park after the 2020 season," she said. "Watching families and friends return to the park and create new memories after a trying and difficult year and a half made all the late nights worth it."

Now at Georgetown, Murphy is invigorated by intercollegiate athletics ticketing and has made a great impact on Hoya sales. She has already redesigned the ticket webpage, making it more accessible for season ticket holders and fans and has streamlined visiting team ticket requirement forms. With basketball, she has created new ticket packages for the 2023-24 men's season and is working to streamline ticket requests for home and away games.

Of her time at Georgetown, Murphy says, "Returning to my roots [in intercollegiate athletics] has brought out a passion that I longed for," Murphy said. "It has allowed me to refocus on what I can accomplish and teach students."
