Georgetown Heads North for BIG EAST Matchup at Villanova

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's basketball team heads to Villanova, Pennsylvania for a BIG EAST game against Villanova on Tuesday. Tipoff at Finneran Pavilion is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on FS1. The Hoyas enter Tuesday's contest with a 9-18 overall record after defeating DePaul 77-76 in a close battle at Wintrust Arena. With the win in Chicago, the Hoyas now own a 2-14 mark in BIG EAST play. Villanova sits at 15-12 on the season with an 8-8 mark in league play following a 78-54 loss on the road to then-No. 1 UConn on Saturday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown defeated the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday evening 77-76 at Wintrust Arena as a pair of free throws from Jayden Epps with 8.1 seconds on the clock pushed the Hoyas ahead and DePaul didn't have the answer on the other end.
  • Epps led all scorers with 33 points on 9-for-18 shooting and an 11-for-13 performance from the charity stripe. Rowan Brumbaugh added 14 points while Dontrez Styles chipped in 12. Cook pulled down a squad-best 11 rebounds while Epps dished out five helpers.
  • For his effort in a 1-1 week that saw the sophomore record back-to-back 30+ point performances, Epps was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. The Norfolk, Virginia native averaged 32.0 points and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 55.3% (21-38) from the floor.
  • Epps is currently third in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.4 ppg in 24 outings. He leads a trio of Hoyas in double-figure scoring as Dontrez Styles tallies 13.0 ppg while Cook chips in 11.3 ppg.
  • Cook's 8.4 rpg ranks third in the BIG EAST and is fueled by his league-leading 4.2 offensive boards per game, which ranks fourth nationally. Additionally, the East Orange native leads the squad in efficiency, shooting 59.9% (115-192) from the floor. Cook has tallied seven double-doubles on the season, with the most recent coming at Creighton (19P/11R) on Feb. 13.
  • Epps dishes out 4.4 apg, holding on to eighth in the conference, while his 2.3 3-pointers made per game ranks seventh in the league.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Villanova is coming off a 78-54 loss at then-No. 1 UConn on Saturday in Storrs, Conn. Eric Dixon led the Wildcats with 20 points while TJ Bamba added another 13. Dixon and Bamba also pulled down eight and five rebounds, respectively. Hakim Hart paced the offense with a pair of assists.
  • Dixon is Villanova's leading scorer with 16.0 ppg, followed by Bamba (10.5) and Justin Moore (9.8).
  • Tyler Burton and Dixon lead the team in rebounds, pulling down 6.4 and 6.3, respectively. Dixon's 2.3 offensive rebounds per game ranks ninth league-wide.
  • Villanova is led by Kyle Neptune, in his second season with the program.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH VILLANOVA
  • Tuesday's game will be the 96th meeting all-time between the two programs, dating back to 1922. Villanova holds the 50-45 advantage over Georgetown in the series. On the road, the Hoyas are 15-25 against the Wildcats.
  • The last meeting between the two programs was less than two weeks ago, with Villanova taking the 70-54 victory at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C on February 16. Brumbaugh led the Hoyas with 14 points in the contest.
