Hoyas Face Seton Hall on Wednesday in BIG EAST Road Game

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will travel to Newark, New Jersey for a BIG EAST matchup against the Seton Hall University Pirates on Wednesday night. Tipoff at Prudential Center is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS2. The Hoyas are coming off a loss at home to then-No. 9/10 Marquette on Saturday and enter Wednesday's game at 8-13 on the season with a 1-9 record in BIG EAST play. The Pirates enter the matchup at 14-8 on the season and a 7-4 record in league action after a runaway win at DePaul last Tuesday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off a 91-57 loss to then-No. 9/10 Marquette on Saturday at home at Capital One Arena. Rowan Brumbaugh led a trio of Hoyas in double figures tallying 12 points off the bench on 4-for-6 shooting from the field and going 3-for-4 from the free throw line. He added a squad-high three assists to help the Hoya offense. Drew Fielder also came up big off the bench to score 11 points on a 4-for-6 performance from the floor and a team-best seven rebounds. Dontrez Styles rounded out the double-figures, chipping in 10 points and three rebounds.
  • Epps currently sits at third in the league in scoring, averaging 18.5 ppg to lead a trio of Hoyas in double figures as Styles adds 12.8 ppg and Supreme Cook chips in 10.9 ppg.
  • Cook is third in the league in rebounding, pulling down 7.9 rpg. His 3.8 offensive boards per game ranks third in the BIG EAST. Cook continues to be efficient on the offensive end, knocking down 64.1% (84-131) of his shots, putting him second among conference leaders in the category.
  • Epps dishes out 4.3 apg, ranking eighth in the BE, while his 2.4 3-pointers made per game ranks sixth  in the league. 
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE PIRATES
  • Seton Hall enters Wednesday's matchup at 14-8 on the season with a 7-4 mark in BIG EAST action after handily defeating  DePaul 72-39 on Tuesday at Wintrust Arena. Dre Davis led the Pirates in scoring with a double-double (16P/12R), trailed by Isaiah Coleman (15P) and Jaden Bediako (12P). The Pirates had a historic defensive performance in the game limiting DePaul to just 39 points, the fewest in a BIG EAST game in program history. SHU allowed the Blue Demons just 22.0% shooting and 11 made field goals.
  • Kadary Richmond, who returned in the DePaul game after a two-game absence, leads the team in scoring and assists, averaging 15.9 ppg and 4.8 apg, with his helpers ranking sixth in the conference. The Pirates have two other players averaging double figures, with Al-Amir Dawes scoring 14.2 ppg and Davis adding 13.8 ppg.
  • Bediako grabs 7.7 rpg to lead the Pirates, which is good enough for sixth in the BIG EAST.
  • The Pirates currently sit at fourth place in the BE, following No. 1/1 UConn, No. 7/7 Marquette and No. 19/17 Creighton.
  • Seton Hall is led by Head Coach Shaheen Holloway who is in his second season with the program. In his first season, he recorded the best season in program history for a first-year coach, setting records for overall wins, BE wins and home wins.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH SETON HALL
  • Wednesday's game will be the 120th all-time between the two programs, dating back to 1909. Georgetown narrowly tops the series 61-58 but has lost the past six meetings against the Pirates. On the road, the Hoyas are 23-33 against SHU.
  • The last matchup between the two teams was on Jan. 9 at Capital One Arena, with Seton Hall edging out the Hoyas in a close contest 74-70.
  • Cooley is 12-13 all-time against Seton Hall. He and Holloway have faced each other five times previously with the first two coming during Holloway's time with Saint Peter's. Cooley is 3-2 against Holloway but has dropped the last two meetings.
