Georgetown Opens BIG EAST Play Against Villanova

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will host the Villanova Wildcats for a three-game series this weekend marking the start of BIG EAST action. GU will host the Wildcats at Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia with game one scheduled for Thursday, March 28 with first pitching coming at 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown (16-8) comes into the series winning eight of its last 10 with the two losses coming to No. 14 Virginia and Maryland. Over the weekend, the Hoyas swept Ohio State marking their first road sweep over a power five opponent in the past 20 years.
  • Everett Catlett was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after a fantastic outing against Ohio State. The left-handed pitcher dominated once again for GU going six full innings and allowing four hits, one earned run while fanning seven OSU batters.
  • Christian Ficca has been on a tear through the first 24 games of the season slashing .392/.478/.701. The senior has tallied 38 hits, 21 runs scored, nine doubles, seven home runs and 37 RBIs a mark that is good for 16th in the country.
  • The Hoyas are first in the BIG EAST in base on balls (140), first in double plays (28) a mark good for fourth in the nation, first in doubles (58), first in hits (246), second in home runs (35), first in runs (205) and first in slugging percentage (.510).
  • Josh Rolling leads the conference in base on balls (22). Jake Hyde is second in the conference in doubles with 10. Ficca is second in the conference in home runs with seven and leads the conference in RBIs (37). Nick Davis and Kai Leckszas lead the conference in saves with five and four respectively. Michael Eze leads the conference in stolen bases with 12. Owen Carapellotti leads the BIG EAST in triples with three.
  • Georgetown is tied for first in the country in team saves with 12 on the season. The Hoyas are tied with No. 1 Arkansas who also has 12 team saves on the season.
 
 
ABOUT VILLANOVA
  • Villanova (7-15) enters the weekend series after dropping a midweek contest to Rider (9-7). In the Wildcats last series against George Mason, Villanova took one of the three games after being swept in Saturday's doubleheader.
  • Jack O'Reilly leads the Wildcats at the plate slashing .323/.400/.602 on the season. O'Reilly has 30 hits, 11 doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs on the season.
  • On the mound, Rian Schwede boasts a 1-1 record to go with a 6.43 ERA. Schwede has seen 28 innings of action on the mound and has allowed 20 earned runs, seven doubles and three home runs while striking out 24.
