Schaaf Named Brooks Wallace Semifinalist

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University standout Blake Schaaf has been named one of 30 semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award as announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Wednesday. The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for the former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

The semifinalists were identified based on their combined offensive and defensive performances from this season. Finalists for the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award will be announced on June 4 with the 2025 winner to be announced at a date to be finalized later that month.

Schaaf was spectacular in his second season on the Hilltop as the sophomore slashed .344/.442/.476 in 55 games. Schaaf tallied 65 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 35 RBIs on the campaign. The Oakland, California native was second on the squad in walks with 33 and led GU on the base path stealing an impressive 31 bags on 35 attempts.

Schaaf was one of 100 student-athletes from across the country to be named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List back in April. Schaaf is the first Hoya since Andrew Ciufo (C '23) to be named to the watch list and is the first Hoya in program history to be named a semifinalist for the award.
