Georgetown Athletics Celebrates 2024 Commencement

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University recognized its graduating seniors with events over the past few days as more than 200 student-athletes were honored earning bachelor's and master's degrees.  Two Hoya student-athletes received athletics related awards from their individual colleges during the festivities. On Monday, members of the baseball, men's lacrosse, men's rowing and women's rowing teams participated in a private ceremony after missing graduation while competing.

Erin Hood – Women's Swimming & Diving
Stephanie Waterman Medal
Walsh School of Foreign Service

The Stephanie Waterman Medal is named in memory of a student in the School of Foreign Service who was captain of the varsity tennis team and who died in Senegal in 1985. The medal is awarded to the outstanding scholar-athlete of the graduating class.
  • Earned All-BIG EAST Honors in 2024, 2023 and 2022.
  • The BIG EAST Champion in the 400 IM in 2023 and 2024 and 200 breaststroke in 2024.
  • During her Hoya career, Hood set a new program record for the 200 IM (2:00.14), 400 IM (4:14.78), 200 medley relay (1:32.54), 800 free relay (7:21.57) and the 400 free relay (3:22.68) that earned the women's team its first gold relay medal at the BIG EAST Championship in 2024.
  • She earned her degree in science, technology and international affairs.
Isabella Wylie – Women's Swimming & Diving
Thomas Francis Graham Award
Georgetown College

The Thomas Francis Graham Award was founded by the Graham Family in memory of their father Thomas Francis Graham (C'1949). The honor of this award is bestowed upon a graduating senior of the College who has demonstrated throughout his or her college career concern for others, academic achievement, sportsmanship as a member of an intercollegiate team and dedication to the educational and spiritual goals of Georgetown University.
  • Earned All-BIG EAST Honors in 2024, 2023 and 2022.
  • Helped set a new program record in the 200 free relay (1:32.53) and the 400 free relay (3:22.68) that earned the women's team its first gold relay medal at the BIG EAST Championship in 2024.
  • Wylie earned her degree in theology and religious studies.
The awards were distributed at Tropaia Ceremonies held by the individual school over the weekend. The word Tropaia, meaning trophy, is ancient Greek and referred to a monument constructed to celebrate a military victory.

The Class of 2024 enjoyed enormous athletic successes, appearing in a combined 42 NCAA Tournaments and bringing in more than 64 BIG EAST Team and Individual Championships home to the Hilltop. Competing in both the BIG EAST Conference and the Patriot League, this year's senior class combined to garner more than 100 postseason all-league awards as well as being the recipients of at least 200 academic all-league honors.
