WASHINGTON – Following the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon, the Georgetown track & field program secured a quartet of All-Americans. Following the championships in Eugene, the women's team finished tied for 30th with nine points while the men's squad tied for 32nd with 10 points. The trip out to the Pacific Northwest also saw the men's squad win its first individual event national title since the 1997 outdoor season.

HOYA ALL-AMERICANS
  • Parker Stokes earned his fourth-consecutive All-America honor in the steeplechase and his third nod to the first team after he won the men's 3,000m steeplechase title on Friday. Following a tactical race, the graduate student came off the final water jump and outkicked the leader from UVA, overtaking the lead by the final barrier and never relinquishing it. Stokes is the first national champion for the men's program since 1997 when Bryan Woodward won the outdoor 800m title. Stokes is also just the second Hoya to win the men's steeplechase, joining Joe Lucas who won the event in 1972.
  • On Saturday, Melissa Riggins placed fourth in the women's 1,500-meter run. It matched her fourth-place finish in the mile from the indoor season to solidify her spot as one of the top middle distance contenders in the country. It is her first outdoor First Team All-America nod at the outdoor championships, earning second team accolades in 2023.
  • On the first day of the women's championship, Chloe Scrimgeour earned First Team All-America honors for her fifth-place finish in the women's 10,000-meter run. She led a chase pack in the race and held on for the first team nod, in just her first season competing in the race. She stepped up to compete in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday in hopes of completing the double but fell just short.
  • Also in the women's 10,000-meter run, Maggie Donahue turned in her best finish in the event, placing 10th and earning Second Team All-American honors. She now has a pair of honors in the event after finishing 16th in 2022.

OF NOTE
  • With an appearance in the men's 800-meter semifinals, freshman Gabriele Angiono received honorable mention honors following the championship where he placed 23rd.

UP NEXT
A select number of athletes will continue competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials in a couple of weeks. In an Olympic year, the trials serve as the USA Track & Field (USATF) Championships with the top three from each event making Team USA. The last Hoya Olympian from the track & field program was Rachel Schneider who competed at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, held in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
